Destinator 3 and SDK

All,

I know some of you are blatantly not as stupid as me but for anyone who is having problems with Map Monkey and Destinator 3, here is what I did to get it to work.

Purchased New SDK for $50 and copied folder to C drive.
Installed Map Monkey.
Copied map folders to Destinator Apps Folder.
Remembered to unzip map files from Destinator Disk (I learnt it definately will not work with the maps still as zip files!!!! Steady on with the abuse, I heard that!
Copied the Configuration file found in the Sample London map (contains no text) and copied to each of the map folders.
Sure enough it worked.

Patience is the answer, but I hope this advice helps at least some of the people thining they have just wasted all that money for nothing.

I have emailed Destinator's Rafiq, responsible for SDK who had told me it definately will not work with Map monkey. I mailed him mainly to gloat but I also asked him to think about all those who have purchased sdk, if they want to continue that income I suggested they provided some support to assist people cause without it they;ll find people will just prefer to stick with illegitimate copies... something I was starting to consider!

What are you, a C compiler?

Thanks to Andywaite for this. This info is "out there" in threads, but it's old and I didn't trust it. You don't mention where you got the maps, they don't come with the SDK do they?

no you need to own a copy od destinator for the pda etc to get the maps.

Nice find, although unfortunately the gloating will probably do nothing but make them change the way the DLL works so this trick can't be done in future

Did he reply to your comment about supporting MM users?

No, but with all fairness I still don't have a read receipt for the mail I sent so maybe he hasn't seen it yet.

I think too the gloating was a mistake, the maps functioned fine with the PC in my room but the minute I connected the GPS unit it started throwing up error messages. The software is still functioning but obviously the error messages take over Road Runner.

Haven't found out what the error messages are yet, I thought I'd risk just doing a completely fresh install. Trying to get it to work there are more dll files in that folder tha you can shake a keyboard at!

I'll let you know when I have reinstalled it and it doesn't work!
