Ok, i just got nav7 pro in the mail this morning (3 hours ago), and just to check i installed the ocx component. There is an example with it that shows that we can indeed have a version that is windowed :-)
However it seems that it is onle the map that is shown, and not the application itself, so i think the UI will have to be created by myself...:-( might take a while.

hi m8, thats good news, knocking a skinnable UI up should be a problem, what are you coding it in I might be able to give you a hand.

Well all i know is VB on a level that should work, my C++ is kinda rusty at the moment. Right now i am trying to figure out how to start get the ocx working in vb, it would seem i need to do more than just a simple reference of the ocx to make it work, there is not command option when i type the ocx control name and then . like there usually is.

would this not be an ideal time to try and build something into RR natively?

Instead of just cobbling together another frontend which will then have to be embedded...

Can it not be built in in a way like David (Veetid) has done with destinator6

It could, i don't know what you are referring to in regards to destinator 6 though ?

David as in Veetid, the developer of Centrafuse.

He has built in Destinator 6 support in Centrafuse

And from what I've seen its possible to build it as an external nav engine module so all the skinning is done by CF.

Its easy to integrate it into RR, the hard bit is getting everything working first, the map mounting / routing / gps decoding-handling etc.. once all those are done then rr comes easy.

Oh, i never used centrafuse for more than a few minutes years ago....didn't know that. Regarding the api for coding in pcnav7, it looks pretty simple, there are functions for searching the database, settings the dest. and so on. It should be very doable...i do think i will have to mess around with the basic map/gps functionality before tackling a GUI that works well.
