    Uhm...no. There's no Ini.bas, WinAMP_Control.bas, CommonDialogs.bas, modTagReader.bas, and cVolume.cls.

    I was wrong, there's only 5 missing.

    Just a suggestion, but you might want to drop some flash animations in there instead of the spinning 3d image. Seems like less overhead to me, but I may be wrong. Source to my project is at my site (under the news section) if you want to see an example.

    Read the READMENOW.txt file. That error means that it can't find any MP3s.

    Carcomp,
    Cool... I too would like to help in the development of your software. (I'll just put it on my list of things to do ) I think that is is excellent that you have released the source. Keep it up.

    I have updated the program binary and the source with a few things...

    First : I added keyboard support so you folks with keypads can use the software.

    Second: Worked a little bit with the IRman timing. Still cannot figure out how to talk with the serial port directly, so I am resorting to the IRman.OCX file still. Hey, it works.

    Third: Read up on plug-ins. I think I can make this software plu-inable, but in a limited way. Any help here?

    Added mpg and DVD support code into the source, but have not finished it yet. Take a look at the source code. It wouldn't take too much to point a variable at the mpg form and load it from the Extensions on the main menu

    send me a PM with your email, or shoot me an email directly... I can help you out with that IRman code... very simple to implement....

    now I need to really get cracking on my next software revision!

    Been working on Media Engine some more. Added a few things. I have been trying to encorporate DVD into the app, but so far I cannot test it, cause I have no DVD-Rom. I did get the mpeg player to work. Its not coded into the interface yet, but if you get the source, you can see all of it there, and if you change the active form, you can try out the movie player.

    The code that I used supports DVD, and making DVDs play with it would probably be very easy. I need someone with a DVD-Rom to take a look at that part.

    I also re-coded the playlist generating part of the code, so now you see ACTUAL artist / song combinations. For some reason, it had been dropping the songname from the list, and just placing the artist there. Had something to do with badly inserted ID3 tags. Well, now it works good.

    Damn IRMan is being a pain in the rear. I was wondering if there is a way to put the IRman "control" part of the program into a module, and use it from there? Or into a class? I am not sure how. Also need to find a way to add plug-ins to the Extensions menu item.

    Let me know if there is any features you want to see in the next build.

    feature request

    First I'd like to say this is nice work - a simple and intuitive interface goes a long way. I'd like to contribute in any way possible (as long as it involves coding). =)

    Not sure why, but the copy of winamp that you packaged wouldn't actually play files. I hardcoded the path to the installed version i.e. 'c:\program files\winamp\....', compiled and it worked. Perhaps a useful feature / bugfix would be to check for the existence of winamp in the usual location, and if not found prompt the user for the location (store it in ini file) or exit program.

    i.e.
    Dim sWAPath As String
    sWAPath = ReadINI(....)
    If Len(sWAPath) = 0 Then
    sWAPath = Dir("c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe")
    If Len(sWAPath) = 0 Then
    sWAPath = InputBox("","Enter the path to winamp.exe", vbOk)
    End If
    sWAPath = Dir(sWAPath)
    If Len(sWAPath) = 0 Then
    MsgBox("Unable to locate winamp, exiting...")
    Unload Me
    End If
    WriteINI(...)
    End If

    Also, if you're going to package and distribute the source you might want to make sure all the form, class and module resources are in the same directory when you zip it up. Makes it hard to look at the work you did on the mpeg stuff if the module didn't get into the zip. ;-)

    One other suggestion - possibly for a lot later on - color schemes would be pretty cool. I for one don't need a ton of visual stimulation while negotiating traffic at 80 MPH; probably why I appreciate the simplistic interface. It would be neat to allow users to customize the colors for different times of day or say to match the colors of their vehicle. Just a thought.
