    New version source code released.

Fixed almost all errors. (All that I know of.)

Added support for arrow keys, enter key, well, all keys for that matter.

Predefined keypad for your keypad users.

COMPLETELY rebuilt IRman control system. Works great.

    Check it out

Testing right now - excellent bud. Seems more stable etc.

May I suggest a key to be able to take you from MP3 playing straight to selecting another playlist? And any further on the random thing? Random through playlists as well as random throughout a selected directory would be awesome.

The key mapping is much better now and ten times easier to use with the arrows

Really looking forward to a bit of customisation maybe and when the DVD kicks in.

Looking REALLY good so far basically!

I have released a new version.

Media Engine 1.2.1 is available for download and use. I have tried to make sure that the program is now stable enough to use in an automotive environment. I have eradicated the problem with it locking up when you try to go to Play Music after exiting Display Playlists without selecting a song.

    NEW FEATURE
You can now switch from playing music to selecting playlists without having to stop the music and return to the main menu. When you select a new song, the song's playlist loads, the song fades in, and the music player loads. The default button is P, but can be mapped to keypad & IRman remote.

Media Engine 1.2.1 also supports all resolutions, and includes font scaling. Soon enough, it will allow you to choose the fonts you wish to use, and where.

Background images have been added, and I am going to map the selections / displays to images as well. It may not be "total" skinning, but hey, its better than nothing, and free. The background image can be ANY image, so long as it is a jpg. It is scaled as well so you don't need to worry about it "fitting" anywhere.

Has anyone come up with any improvements for Media Engine? Some actual code perhaps? hehe

    Feature request

Would be nice if you added:

    1) PgUp + PgDn functions in playlists and player windows ( would require new key + button mappings )

    2) auto-hide volume display ( like the one I sent you source for )

    3) better treatment of title and artist for files w/o tag info ( ditto )

    4) support for creative CIMR-100 remote ( ditto )

    The background image looks awesome!

This may sound like a silly quetion but.. Can you use a mouse with this software? I haven't seen any info to indicate one way or the next.

I have a touchscreen coming my way, this software wouldn't do much for me if I couldn't use it. I'd download it and try it, but I haven't had much time to mess around with things at home, and at work (here and now) I use Mac

    hmm

Not sure if you can use a mouse. I installed the software, putzed for a little bit, and uninstalled it. It was VERY sketchy and in my eyes not layed out very well. Just seems too sloppy to even play with at this time.

Sloppy how? You try bending the laws of visual basic to make something look pretty. Its not easy when a programming language does not natively support transparencies.

Its hard to make something like this when you have NEVER created a multimedia application before. I am trying to figure out what's wrong with the layout (like you say). I mean, it works good, doesn't crash, and plays music, so I don't understand...

    ShinkunoNamida:

I was going to add mouse support when someone suggested it. Since I have no mouse in my car, I didn't make it a major issue to add mouse support. I believe that a remote is a superior choice for automotive system control, but since I am building a system that will work for everyone, mouse control has been added to the "to do" list.

I know that the setup needs work, but hey, at least you don't have to go and manually edit the .ini files. That would suck.

I tried to design a system that would be easy to use for anyone, works on most everyone's computer, and doesn't have bugs. Being a one man programming team, its hard to think of everything. Also, you have to remember, I release the executable when it is stable, every time. That means that controls may have future uses that show up in the release, but may not have any function at the time *Extensions.

Oh, and by the way, its free and I give out the source code.
