CarComp, I love that background image

Is that in this release? And can I drop in my own pic later?

I have been talking with Phat_bastard..

Things we ARE going to add to Media Engine-

    DVD support
    DivX support
    Finish MPEG / AVI player
    Full Screen Visualizations
GPS (though how has not yet been discussed)
More options and customizations (fonts, colors, sizes of thing etc.)

Things that have been done to Media Engie that are important-

Added icons to make browsing for songs easier
    Added shuffle
Tested on 95, 98, ME, 2k, and XP - works
Made selecting your Playlist Directory easier in setup
Fixed most all errors except for VW's weird *** loop that only happens on his computer

Try the latest release and tell me what you think.

This new version is great guys! We can all really ses that MediaEngine is starting to mature.

But I do have one question I would like to get cleared up:

How exactly does MediaEngine organize playlists? Does it look at file name, ID3 tags? I have noticed MediaEngine shortening some of my file names, to only Artist - Track Name, but it does not do this to all. so hows it all work?

    Hope I explained that clearly.

Thanks, and keep up to great work!

I can get this to work for me.

I instaled it, went throw setup, everithing OK.

Now, i go to the "display playlist", all my albuns apear OK and then when i enter the album (directory), i chose the song, it loads winamp and then the "cursor" (highlithed song) keeps jumping from the first song to the second and then returns to the first and goes to the second again, it kepps doind this forever. It apears that someone is clicking on the "down" key, but no one is, i didn't activated the IR and i have all the keys assigned.

FYI, i'm using WinXP, AMD K7 500, and i tried it with and without winamp instaled.

Do you now what's going on?

How exactly does MediaEngine organize playlists
unrealer33 - the playlists are organized by filename, the same way you would see your files listed if you went into a command prompt and typed dir in one of your mp3 folders.

    ID3 tags?
If ME reads good id3 tags out of your mp3 file, the songs appear like this: [Artist] - [Title] in the list. If there are no id3 tags or they are full of garbage characters, I wrote some code to try and pull the artist - title out of the filename. The numbering you see to the left of the names is the order in which the files were returned to us, not neccesarily their track no. We might need to do things differently, but without writing an A.I. or forcing everyone to edit a database manually it's hard to predict whether ppls files will be named in any one manner, or if the id3 tags are good, bad or ugly.

Now, i go to the "display playlist", all my albuns apear OK and then when i enter the album (directory), i chose the song, it loads winamp and then the "cursor" (highlithed song) keeps jumping from the first song to the second and then returns to the first and goes to the
Shades - this is a bug I introduced with the transparent playlists. I'm fixing it as we speak, we should have a more functional and better tested release out in the next few days.

Incidentally, how many songs were in the album playlist when you noticed this behavior? Also, did you try to play a playlist with more files (like more than 12)? It's a really embarrasing bug that I left in there, but hey - the price is right, isn't it?

Thanks to all, especially CarComp for their patience and kind comments!
