Hey, thanks for adding this feature. I was just about to purchase an LCD from Crystalfontz. Unfortunately only a two line version will fit in the location I want to put it. Before I order one I want to make sure it will work with Media Engine. Do you think the USB ones will work?

Well I have changed my mind. I am going to get a Matrix Orbital MX212 . It is a perfect fit for the place I want to install it in.

It should work with USB versions, since they just emulate a COM port. Its difficult to tell, I dont own any type of Crystalfontz display, which makes writing code for them quite difficult.

support for the 16x1 vfd that bgmicro sells would be awesome, nothing crazy, maybe just have it say 'media engine' while media engine is running or something... i gotta get some use out of this screen and not one lcd program supports it

With the code I have added so far, you would get a scrolling display of the track artist and title on a one line display., its just not supported to enable you to navigate the program.

Well, I think the real work has been done by the mediaengine coders, like Carcomp. Im just piggybacking their code to drive the LCDs.

    Update on status:

The main menu is now complete for hd44780 displays. I have moved on to the MP3 module, which so far displays artist and title scrolling along line one, with track time on line two. Hopefully, I should have mp3 module displays finished by the end of the week. I plan to fully implement hd44780 displays first, then it will an be an easy job to add the others afterwards just by editing the driver module.

If anyone wants the source at any time to try out. Let me know and you can have a copy (provided Carcomp is in agreement), just dont expect it to be complete.

Thanks for all of your work on this. Please let me know when I can test out a serial version on my Crystalfontz display.

    Thanks again!

Ok, if anyones wondering.. Its all come to a grinding halt at the moment. Its all straight forward enough, but I dont not have enough of that most precious resource - Time! Therefore, if anyone is getting impatient and interested in taking over adding the support, I have already done the menus and part of the MP3 player, let me know and I will forward the code and notes on how to do it. Anyone who has knocked up code for mediaengine would be quite capable of finishing the Char support - it really is quite easy. Otherwise, everyone will just have to be patient and I will try and get back to it in the next few weeks.

Ok, I got my USB Matrix Orbital display today! I am using LCDC to control it. I want to have one screen display stuff like the date when music is not playing and another screen displayed track info when music is playing. If I select the winamp2 plug-in to always display, the plug-in works but displays NA when music is not playing, but if I select the music screen to not display when winamp is playing it never recognizes when media engine launches winamp, and does not change screens.

Am I going about this the correct way? If so what do I need to change?

    Thanks a million!
