Widescreen support - how good?

anyone running a wide screen lcd with media engine?
how well does it work?

Widescreen is up to the user. MediaEngine will try to support whatever your screen width is dynamically by stretching itself out. (I use percentages and fractions, not static numbers for deciding where to place items)...

It is up to the user to either come up with some form of graphics card that can do 16:9 in pixels or find a way to stretch out a standard resolution (read 800x600 etc) to fill the screen. Some non-VGA car lcds do this with the press of a button.

The reason you will notice that I have removed the aspect ratio option from settings is that m.e now can "figure out" by itself what size (wide / standard) the movie was originally encoded as (provided the person doing the encoding did it correctly.)

Thats a big message.

OK my widescreen lcd came through and it has a strech function - so all the music aspects work fine - only problem is when watching widescreen movies - they come out very widescreen, media engine could do with an option to fill display, so it would look correct on widescreen lcd's....

I can not modify my screen resolution in pixels for 16:9 (FV25) and do not have any buttons on my lcd for the same (old redant 7" from liksang). Can you provide an entry in the appearance tab that will allow a user to enter their screen resolution which will modify the playback ratio of movies only to appear correct on a 16:9 display.

I have a Xenarc widescreen display, but can't use 16:9 resolutions because the EPIA video out doesn't support it.
The main issue is that ME is unable to stretch movies because WMP doesn't support overriding the original aspect ratio (as far as I'm aware).

There have been programs written to address this, such as Zoom Player (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml) which can display 16:9 movies perfectly from a 4:3 resolution on to a 16:9 screen by changing the aspect ratio. I simply use ZP instead of ME when playing movies, has better seek support etc as well. Only problem is getting out of fullscreen without a keyboard... heh.
