his a Mercedes Setup... Think it is called Lingutroinic or something, very simialr to Command system but it has voice activation for a built in phone, or something like that... Sorry not much use!

Is it possible? Yes. My setup does all that.

How can you do it? Well right now you are going to have to do some of your own programming to control both ME and an external app. The easiest way would be to use Girder scripts.

In the future ME will have an integrated GPS app so you won't even have to worry about "external" anything, but you might be waiting a while for that.

How do you know when a voice guidance command is going to be output so you can mute the music just before it is output?

I haven't used girder before, but looking at it, it looks the way to go. Just wondered how you interacted with your gps program (what gps program are you using) that's all.

Well...ok so my system doesn't mute the music for voice guidance, but you can hear the commands over the music. As for the way I currently control my gps (Copilot) see this thread: copilot preview

You'll have to talk to someone else about a girder implementation but i'm sure there are people doing it.

Can't see the pics in the linked thread, but it does sound cool! Although not sure I would be able to get it to work in the UK from what others were saying...

I take it when you say in the future ME will be able to do that, but it wont be for a long time you mean that MEv2 won't be available for a long time?

No I don't mean that v2 won't be out soon. I just mean the GPS portion of the app will most likely be a 2.x (x>0) implementation.

I have 2 setups for my 2 cars. One of them is the old setup I had in my old car (yeah I had a ton of cars). The old setup was done when mp3car.com first started. My firends convinced me that I could not put a computer in a car so I did. But I used winMe and desktopX so you can run music while you check your GPS. The other method is a preset AutoPC. I have a clarion AutoPC running on 75Mhz SH3 processor on WinCE version 2.0. There I can have CD/Radio/MP3s playing in the background while I can use the GPS.

But I still want to have an actual computer in the car so I got me a espressoPC from www.saintsong.com.tw . A great unit with 20GB space, 128MB RAM and 900Mhz C3 Chip. Boots to ME within 30 seconds and Xp within 45 seconds flat so might be doable.

Seraph - how do you like the Clarion AutoPC? I'm just in the process of pulling it out of my car; I wrote an MP3 player for it (as far as I know, I'm only the 2nd person to have ever done so - it was a pain in the ***) but found after getting into it that the device only supports 22 Khz for audio file playback (44 khz for CD).

I assume you were using Music Player 2.0 for the AutoPC - how did you find it while the GPS was on? I spoke (through e-mail) with the guy who wrote it after helping him ban some illegal auctions of his software from e-Bay, and he claimed that he would often drop playback down to 11hz (and sometimes mono!) to keep the sound smooth ...

BTW - loved the old SVXs!
