    Animated Icons

I havent played enough with skinmaker to be sure, but can you use animated GIFs as your buttons? if not, it would be nice to have some roll-over effects or animated GIFs as your buttons.

    (getting back to topic, hehehe)
I would agree with you Custommx3 animation would set this apart from all. But not just the buttons. Like an animated loading screen or just how the buttons load on the screen would be cool. I'd pay that for a dollar

The logic behind animating a gif is sound, but only if you are using the standard "VB" way to display the images... But, VB cannot display animated gifs in any "native" mode. One would have to use some way to parse the animated gifs and get them onto the screen (which has been looked into and has been found to be ugly as sin with horrible flicker).
Since MediaEngine 2.0 relies on the 2D accelerator of the video card to display images (with bitblt and stretchblt APIs), there would in essense be only 1 way to animate anything, and that would be to provide the entire animations as a set of images and blit them onto the screen from memory as needed, provided the computer is fast enough to do that *and* build and maintain the Jet/ADO database at the same time. Like I said, its a possibility, but not a likely one. Sorry.
    Get MediaEngine !!!

Yes, but AVI's notoriously take more processing power to display than GIFs.

ever think of using flash? create a webpage, embed a flash movie into is and use that html as your desktop.

i created something like this before, but its not as glamorous as ME when it comes to playing movies.

i would have a button called "Movies" and it would open up the folder.
i also have a MP3 button and it links to a mp3 playlist, which then opens up winamp automatically.

im not too experienced with flash. but, can flash read a directory and display the files in it?

    just an idea.
