Well, you've just pointed out why we don't support leaving audio playing while switching to external apps. I'm guessing you're using girder or some other app that's sending keystrokes to the currently active application, and if you launch another application, MediaEngine is no longer the currently active application. The "ability" to switch to external apps from the touchscreen button is in fact, a bug. Unfortunately, so many people think it's the intended functionality that even CarComp had to ask why. Don't do it, ok? Just don't do it.

Wait for the upcoming release with built-in GPS support. It'll work the way it's supposed to then. We do this in our spare time; if you're impatient we could be better motivated if the UPS guy dropped off some donated GPS receivers and other carputer related items at our homes...

By the way, I'm not using girder, I'm using the built-in CIMR100 support. I guess when the program is inactive it drops the serial port, or simply stops checking for remote events.

I probably won't be able to use the built-in GPS support, because I can't use mappoint (it has no data for New Zealand).. But oh well. I'll live.

If I was rich I'd send lots of gps receivers and whatnot.. But I spent about 3 weeks pay on my touchscreen :P

We may enable you to leave music playing while launching / switching to external apps in a future release, but we feel at the moment it would involve a lot of code changes that we wouldn't be able to test out thorougly and get to you in a reasonable time frame.

About your request for a button that minimizes M/E, how about switching to the already running task when you select the program's entry in the external apps menu?

That would be ok. I'd just like a way to get to my GPS when I need it, in some way that I can leave ME running.

Seems like it might be simpler for now just to play mp3's in winamp or something when I'm in the GPS software, and use ME for dedicated MP3.
