    mediaengine slow with windows me

    hi there,

i have installed mediaengine 2 under windows me, but it works verry slow!!
when i startup me the "refreshing database" duration is takes about 3 minutes. i have about 500 mB music on it so that's not the problem. when me is ready, every command i give takes 30 secconds or longer. even when a mp3 is playing and i click on the up arrow to popup the hidden menu, it go's as much slow that i can count the steps it's making to popup the hidden menu.
i have installed the 2 updates but it stays slow.

when i install me under windows xp on the same pc it works normaly.

who knows a selution for this problem?

    greetings qbics

We haven't "officially" supported Windows Millenium. We do support Windows98 SE, Windows 2000, and Windows XP (which is the OS that MediaEngine is coded on)... Why can't you just use Windows XP?

You will probably find that as you are using FAT32, you will get ScanDisk.

If you use NTFS, then you will hardly ever get ScanDisk, unless it REALLY needs it (in which case, let it run!)

Anyways, XP without any crap loaded on it should shut down pretty quickly anyway

yep, but it is the cases where my shutdown controller (the oldsyle one) cuts the power after 8 mins.

stilllooking for the scheme of the advanced controller which sends a signal to go into hibernate.
hope somebody can help me with that.

    Question

@ carcomp: i tried the solution which is on the link you told me, but it did't work out. maybe because i have a dutch version of xp??? i don't know.

@ confused: to change the partition from fat32 to ntfs that will do the job :-). no scandisk and even hibernation works ok.

    greetings qbics.

Carcomp, I am having the same problem with extremely slow performance, (almost in a locked state), on two different machines running 98se. I have me2 running perfect on an xp machine. Since it was doing the same thing on two different 98se machines with totally different hardware I've been trying to narrow it down by removing other software. I haven't found anything yet. Both of these machines have 98se with all of the microsoft updates, winamp, power dvd, and keyspan digital media remote software. Any help would be appreciated and if I find anything I will repost.

    Thanks,

    ED

We have an update coming out soon... We just have to finish testing it. We have changed a myriad of things, especially how the db functions, so hopefully this will help you.

Per chance, did you use the add favorites function? We found that if you are to install m.e 2.0, then run it and build the db, so long as you don't use any "add favorites" features, the db won't take "forever" to load.. This is a bug and has been fixed, but again we are testing.
