Nice.. How much did you throw out? I also think it should work fine to remove IE, but only AFTER the installation of M.E..

i just got this same error and behavior from what used to be a zero problem instalation.
It happend right after i tried to change the location of my media to a different folder. The database started to update then for some reason ME trid to go back to the main screen and just started looping.
Maybe this can help track down the bug.

ok, i reinstalled it again but this time to a differnt dir.
    Still giving me the error.
ive also tried to install it with the win98 option but that ddidnt seem to do anything.
Im running winXP and before i tried to change my media dir i was having zero problems.

well i got me back up and running again.

The conclusion ive found, is that me seems to not like certain file types. I have a movie dir that has a ton of mpeg, qt and other video files and me doesnt like it for some reason. I dont know if its because there are video files with extension it cant recognize? I would assume that it would only search for the file types that are listed in the options (i didnt change this btw). Or one of the videos could have bad data.

Ill report more as i investigate
