    Media Engine under XPe

    Hello,

I'm trying to get Media Engine v2.1 running with xp embedded on an EPIA 5000.

The preferences screen comes up I then specify where the mp3's are and it doesn't seem to search through like it says it will.

It then displays the Loading screen and then dumps back to the desktop with no error message or anything.

I think it's database related, so my question is this: what does medai engine use for its db. What dll files are required and so on.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the tip.

    debug.log:
2/22/2004 9:49:44 PM - An error occured in modDB.InitDB : Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)). : Error number -2147467259

So it does seem that it's a database problem, any ideas on how I can resolve this?

    Thanks.

i'm no MS guru but it uses the access junk for the database.. so you'd need to build in access support to XPE

Yes! It works. Thanks for the pointers.

For anyone who wants to try this the database error is caused by not having Jet 4.0 installed.

As far as I can tell there's no Jet4.0 , MDAC or ODBC (for access- odbcjt32.dll)

So you need to install (in this order):
Jet4.0 (need to install NT4 version, as the XP installer expects you to have odbcjt32.dll and the like! Also XP installer fails with no crypto service)
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=239114#5
(need Jet 4.0 SP8 for 95,98,NT4 _NOT_ XP)
    MDAC 2.6
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/dataaccess

    Hope this helps someone else.

    Jim.

307 megs at the moment. Going to try to reduce a little, but 300 megs is much smaller than XP anyway.

    Sounds interesting, jim!

What hardware is this running on? And what are your current boot-up times? (that's more important to me than how big the installation is!)

    Hardware:
    VIA EPIA 5000 M/B incl 533Mhz EDEN CPU. - @ 533MHz
    256Mb PC133 (2x128Mb)
    WUSB11 Wireless LAN.
    Geforce MX400 PCI Video.
    40Gb 5400rpm HDD

As far as boot time goes, I had it at about 35 secs, but that was before I installed WMP9 (Good job ME2.1 doesn't need this, it well bloated it!) and other programs.

I'm going to re-image it tomorrow, add the changes to get Media Engine to work, run Bootvis & i'll post the results.

Would like to try this with a 7200 RPM drive, but I can't seperate it from my main PC.

Also is it possible to o/c an EDEN CPU outside of windows?, mine runs happily at 666MHz and even 733Mhz without generating too much heat, I know I can do it with WCPUID, but thats in windows, if I could do it sooner I think it would reduce my boot time.

    Jim.
