    GPS - Confused

After searching around a bit I cannot find a definative answer on what GPS and GPS software I should use with Media Engine. I am ready to add GPS services to my car but any Media Engine specific recommendations would be helpful...

    Thanks!

    My Current Setup Is Here.

Hi, have you found out what ME requires for GPS? I'm a bit puzzled on this too.

I bought a DeLorme Earthmate GPS Receiver. It works and uses the Street Atlas USAģ 2004 software that can be loaded via ME.

What I'm confused with is on ME's setup there's a tab for GPS but it's all blank. And then I learned that it's not deployed yet.

So do you start your navigation application through the 'External Apps' button then?

External App, yes. Routis seems to be the only GPS app that has problems lauching from ME though. After you add Routis as an Ext. App. it works once, then if you exit ME and start it up again Routis will not launch (Sound files Missing or Corrupt.....). Hope CarComp and PhatB fix it.

Same here. I use GPS gate with Earthmates USB to serial driver with Netstumbler and Mappoint running as External Programs. No problems!

I'd advocate for waiting until Media Engine has integrated Destinator support. Or at least thats what I'm doing.

I want to get my computer in my car, but I can wait.

I use Earthmate USB GPS, works great and has voice recognition software so you can use voice commands, it also tells you where and when to make turns, even cooler it tells you how fast your are traveling and at what direction. The GPS unit is very accurate, the software (map) has a few mistakes from what Iíve noticed, but where I live there has been a lot of construction and new roads. I would recommend it highly, you can get the software and receiver at best buy for $120-$20(mail in rebate)=$100 or look on ebay, I have seen some good deals. It has a lot of cool features, you can plan a trip, enter in the gas mileage you get, and it will automatically find gas stations that will be convenient for your trip. It will run as an external app but thats allright.
Dell Laptop PIII,500Mhz,640MBRAM,20GBHD(Sits under the driver seat)7.2" Widescreen,Earthmate USB GPS,FM,DVD Drive,I use a docking station, and it stand-by+shut down automatically after I take the key out(DC power stops). Audio into 9 Speakers + Sub
