How do you make your own buttons?

I was trying to build my own skin I a noticed that some of the custom skins have custom buttons but when I use the Skin Maker 1.4 it will only allow me to use preset funtions.

What I want to do is instead of using the External Applications button is just setup a button for the GPS, DVD, and XM Radio apps so I just press a button on the main screen to open teh app.

Are you talking about the buttons available at the bottom of the screen in the player or the ones at the main menu? You can create and place main menu buttons as you chose using the Skinmaker. To change buttons in the player (the rows of small buttons at the bottom) you must open and edit the existing buttons or create your own and save them with the same name and dimensions.

no, download and run those skins. when they say "gps" and you click them, it just runs hte external app folder, not the actual GPS program.

I was hoping for the same thing, myself. no go.

Yah would love to do this for my skin. have the GPS button open an extrenal button.

This would probably be an easy feature to implement... You want to have a button on the main screen *pretty much* just launch one of your external applications? Or did you know that you can preset almost ANY exe in the GPS setup tab and it will launch it. The skinmaker is out of date. By 2 years. I'm thinking about releasing the source for it.

Like CarComp said, you can have any app launch instead of GPS and it will sit in the GPS 'dock' and run. I often use a program like paint when I am testing skins because it takes so much less time to load than the GPS stuff

Then all you have to do is make the button. I suppose this would mean losing the GPS functionality though.
