Are you guys planning on addressing this issue? I've installed every codec known to man, and Media Engine refuses to play any videos at all.

My video drivers are already installed. I'm just going to switch over to frodoplayer like hanzacra did and be done with it. This is too much of a hassle. Especially with no help or input from the developer.

Did you forget about replying to my comments in this very thread? 'No help'? We spend our spare time coding to give our work away and you kick us in the nuts like that? If I spent time handholding everyone who had problems (caused by MediaEngine or their own handywork / ineptitude) I'd never see my wife and kids.

As has been mentioned numerous times on this forum, MediaEngine uses the WMP 6.4 activex control to play all video. If you can play the suspect video streams by opening them with mplay32.exe in your windows/system32 folder, then there should be no reason for MediaEngine not to play them. If you can't, then you dont have the correct codecs or they're not installed properly. If you try this out and the videos do work in mplay32 post back here and I'll look into it a little further. I have the feeling the problem is related to directshow, but we can't reproduce the problem on any test machines.

I of all people appreciate the work that people do on their own software, and the fact that they choose to make it freely available. That being said, it is more than a little frustrating to have an issue like this(experienced by more than one person) largely ignored. I say largely ignored because you did at least try to help, but the input you had did not resolve the issue. Even a "hey man, don't know what's up with that, sorry" would have been nicer than silence.

As I said, I've installed every known codec that is available, and have not made any other significant changes to the system. But as it is, I'm in the process of formatting and reinstalling everything, just to eliminate the windows install as the source of the issue. I'll try what you suggested, and report back. Hopefully it will tell us more about the issue itself.

(edit: and I'll again make a quick plug for vlc. At least give a look, eh? It is hands down a better media player than anything else out there. It plays any video file you throw at it. Except for realmedia, I think. But who uses that garbage, anyway?)

You sure have a strange way of expressing it.

I think I can relate to 'more than a little frustrating'. I've given you a set of steps to take to help troubleshoot this issue. Instead of investing your energies in taking those steps and reporting your results, your next action is to post back about how crappy our support for this free player is. Read the m....f....ing FAQ, follow the suggestions, then post back with detailed observations. Stating that VLC plays the videos doesn't really help anyone, since we're not going to rewite the video section just to appease you. I know nothing about VLC, it could have it's codecs statically linked for all I know. Whatever the end result, if you're expecting hand-holding type support from us on this you're taking all the wrong steps to get it. You are however, very efficiently annoying me.

I'd suggest growing a thicker skin if you find my comments upsetting. Not everyone is going to be happy all the time with your software, great though it may be. Learn to differentiate constructive criticism with people that go "lol ur software sux ok". I've provided specific details of my problem, followed the steps you provided(even though your response was largely a canned one) and still had issues.

Wrong. Read this thread again. You gave a generic response, I replied by saying that I had done what you suggested, with no luck. You neglected to further comment, which is fine. Just don't be surprised when people get frustrated with that.

    Read the m....f....ing FAQ
It's too bad your FAQ doesn't have any information that specifically addresses this issue. (yes I realize it addresses playing videos in some players and not others, but it also says to install codecs. Which I did before I even installed mediaengine. It does not address this issue. So referring me to your FAQ does no good.)

Don't make the mistake of assuming that people who are having issues with your software are simply stupid and don't know what they're doing. My entire background is IT. It's safe to assume that I didn't leave the monitor cable unplugged, so to speak.

Stating that VLC plays the videos doesn't really help anyone,
Actually, it does. It shows that the video files are intact, and work with no issues under normal conditions.

since we're not going to rewite the video section just to appease you. I know nothing about VLC
It isn't about appeasing me. It's about using a superior video player for your software. You state that you don'tknow anything about it, so perhaps it would be beneficial for you to do some research on it, and find out what makes it better.

I can't be sure, but I thought I read somewhere about you wanting to do an entire rewrite of the program. That might be a good time to consider making a change. It's your program, and one that I do enjoy using(save this one issue) so I can understand that you might not want to change it, but at least keep an open mind about suggestions. Not everyone is out to insult you. There is no need to get so offended.)

Incidentally, the clean install of windows, and subsequent reinstalls of everything including codecs hasn't resolved the issue. I tried Frodoplayer, but found the interface absolutely convoluted compared to Media Engine, so I'm sticking with ME, and just using VLC as an external APP to play videos. So at least it isn't a critical issue. If you need any more information or specs to help you pinpoint it, I'd be glad to provide them.

    Cheers.
