Why yes, actually I do. Instead of wasting more bandwidth subjecting us to your opinions, if it's not too much trouble please reply back clearly stating if you've followed these simple directions or not, and if so what your results were.

    (from my previous post...)
As has been mentioned numerous times on this forum, MediaEngine uses the WMP 6.4 activex control to play all video. If you can play the suspect video streams by opening them with mplay32.exe in your windows/system32 folder, then there should be no reason for MediaEngine not to play them. If you can't, then you dont have the correct codecs or they're not installed properly. If you try this out and the videos do work in mplay32 post back here and I'll look into it a little further.(...)

Please note, that this is not the same executable as the Windows Media Player that you would launch by double-clicking something. You will have to run this from a command prompt, or by locating the file in explorer.

Your comments and opinions are annoying, not upsetting. What's upsetting is that I've absorbed your abuse, I continue to try to try and help you, and you still find it necessary to subject me to your opinion of how I'm handling this issue. You rattle on about your IT background, and all the while I can't help but notice that you re-installed the operating system because one application refused to play video for you. That alone speaks volumes about your abilities and knowledge as it pertains to this subject.

I'm not sure how you define "rattling on", but I simply made a passing mention of it, so that I could point out that I have at the very least a working knowledge of how computers work. And as far as reloading the system entirely, it was simply to eliminate the operating system as a cause of the issue. I had no critical data on it(all of my media is stored on an external USB drive) so it was nothing at all to simply just reload from scratch. I'm not sure why you automatically assume that since I wiped and reloaded, that it somehow means that I don't know what I'm doing. In doing so, it eliminated the possibility of the Windows install being incorrect.

As far as your information on what to do, the classic mplayer does play the files that I tried on it. Both AVI's and MPG. Various codecs, etc.

Personally, I suspect it may have something to do with my video chipset. It's a ****ty onboard adapter. Unfortunately, I can't replace it, since there are no AGP or PCI slots on this system(it's a very small form-factor). So that's what I'm thinking at this point.

Anyway, calm down. There's no need to get so angry about things like this.

I'm angry because I had to read assloads of conjecture and opinion to get to:

Which is all I wanted to know. Stow your opinions and stay on topic so we can help others having this problem instead of turning them away by filling otherwise useful threads with pages and pages of useless noise.

Before proceeding to the next step, I want to verify that you're launching mplay32.exe, and not mplayer.exe or wmplayer.exe.

Next, have you tried installing the latest DirectX package?

I think the issue might be related to the capabilities of your video drivers, but I'm not sure how or why the problem has only popped up in this latest release.

    Fair enough.

Yes, ran it from start-> run

Next, have you tried installing the latest DirectX package?
9c is what I currently have. That should be the latest version IIRC.

It could be a driver issue, as there have been no updates for that chipset in forever. I might end up installing mediaengine on my gaming machine, (which obviously has a different video card) so that I can verify that everything else is set up right. If it works there, that tells me it's definitely something with this video chipset(or its related drivers.)

    Hey everyone,

I am experiencing the same problem that others are in the thread. I am testing using both a mpg and a divx avi. These movies do play in media player. While playing them in Media engine, i get a black screen but i do get sound. I have upgraded to media player 9 and experience the same issues. Tonight i am going to replicate this on a different machine to see if it is something with the videocard or drivers. Id also like to try an older version of media engine on the current test pc to see if it was indeed something with an update. If theres any way i could get a copy 2 or 3 releases back, id appreciate it and would post the results for ya. If you want some sort of terminal service into the pc that is experiencing this, i can set that up for you to. As always i idle in #mp3car, JackyD. I recently changed my name here on the forums so i may just have like 1 or 2 posts under this name but ive been idleing around for years there

    Thanks a bunch,

    Jack

Ok, i tested it on my main pc. The same EXACT configuration. It worked fine. I beleive that this is a hardware or driver issue. I am going to try to use an older version of media engine next on the test pc. Ill post results.

Media Engine 2.1.5 DID work on the test pc. It is definatly something that changed since that version. If you have any minor non public released versions between 2.1.5 and 2.3 that you would like me to test (there seems to be alot that changed) ill be happy to test them for you to narrow down what it could be. Again, if you want terminal access to the box, its not a problem. Im on irc
