And as far as reloading the system entirely, it was simply to eliminate the operating system as a cause of the issue. I had no critical data on it(all of my media is stored on an external USB drive) so it was nothing at all to simply just reload from scratch. I'm not sure why you automatically assume that since I wiped and reloaded, that it somehow means that I don't know what I'm doing. In doing so, it eliminated the possibility of the Windows install being incorrect.
As far as your information on what to do, the classic mplayer does play the files that I tried on it. Both AVI's and MPG. Various codecs, etc.
Personally, I suspect it may have something to do with my video chipset. It's a ****ty onboard adapter. Unfortunately, I can't replace it, since there are no AGP or PCI slots on this system(it's a very small form-factor). So that's what I'm thinking at this point.
Anyway, calm down. There's no need to get so angry about things like this.
