Cool, glad you got it working.
I [also] happened onto isaakian's serial captures right after I posted that message to frodo.. But thanks.

Cool, glad you got it working.
My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.
I'm a lesbian too.
I am for hire!
Just wondering if whatever this "fix" is made it into the compiled release.
Should I go DL and give it a try ?

Just a note, the new beta 2 fixes the issues with an XM direct unit (for me at least).
Note, I had to set the XM Direct to false though, as when this was set to true it sends the wrong serial command sequence; but works fine when XM Direct is set to false in the settings.ini
Thanks a lot phat_bastard and car_comp and any other devs who made this work; great work.
So I checked out the new beta and am trying to get my XM direct to work with it. First off, it works flawlessly with Frodo's program so its not my hacked cable. When I'm in the radio section, in the settings, and check the enable XM box, the program goes through and checks the com ports. My XM direct is connected to com 1 and the program goes through chugging out numbers on COM 1 and then gets to a certain number combination, its like 425632, or something like that and then stops. I've let it sit there for a couple of minutes but it never receives the Radio ID or does anything else. After, restarting ME and accessing the XM, the channels are displayed but none of them are updated. I've also waited for the updating of channels for a few minutes with no luck. I even tried Issa tip about setting the XM Direct flag to false in the settings.ini with no luck. Any suggestions? Besides this, everything else is looking great!
Ok, somehow I am able to get the channel listings up when in xm mode however now I have no sound (FrodoSatXM player works flawlessly) and I get the "XM timeout occurred" message. Dont' know whats goin on.
juve021; I realized I'm using the XM Direct with PoweronDudes usb/serial bridge that does some sort of compatibility communication w/the xm unit. So it might just not work yet with the serial to XM direct; As I said in the previous post I looked at the serial command sequence from mediaEngine and it is not sending the correct 3 startup commands needed to work with a simple serial to XM direct connection (my findings may be wrong...)
So If anyone knows how to write a virtual serial port I can write a wrapper function to get XM working with any unit~?
Or just buy powerondude's XM direct usb interface and it should work fine with media engine as is.
I was wondering how setting the xm direct checkbox to off would make it work. I looked at the code today, and there's no mixup with the checkbox and the stored value. If you checked the 'use xm direct' then you should have seen some additional init commands sent. Either way, if you have some funky cable then that's another thing altogether. Why are the so damned many flavors of xm 'hacks'. Curse the idiot that released timetrax.
I'm not using any funky xm hack except for the xm cable hack found on this forum that I believe is most common with the people here. My problem is that I get the "timed out" issue all the time. It will connect and I see the channels but after ~1-2 minutes of listening I get the timeout!Originally Posted by phat_bastard
Yes, my point is it's obviously not the only one, and likely not the most common either. If you get timeouts after the receiver has powered up there are some real issues there also. Does Frodo's app work flawlessly for you as well?Originally Posted by juve021
To further compound my frustration, it seems that even if I took a poll of which hacks people are using, and whether or not they're having problems, based on the information I've gathered so far many wouldn't even be able to accurately tell me exactly what hack they're using. From my perspective it sounds like a drunken mob trying to convey a message to me by belting out a rowdy bar song with the patrons out of key, out of time, etc.
Ha, I understand what you're saying and I could see how it would be confusing to try to fix the problem. I can't speak for everyone else, but the XM cable hack I used can be found here: XM on Carputer THE GUIDEOriginally Posted by phat_bastard
And YES it works flawlessly with Frodo's SatXM standalone however I have not tested it with Frodoplayer (I assume its pretty much the same code?!?!). I really love MediaEngine because its so simple to use with my stupid remote control but this XM thing is killing me!
