NaviVoice has built in functionality for MACROS.
I have tried searching for information about this but have not come across anything that has helped me very much.
I have been using Media Engine on my home computers for a while now and have found it is a great bit of software. I am currently using a Philips Pronto remote to control it via an IRman, and it works pretty much flawlessly which I am very pleased about.
However as is always the way, I want to tinker with my setup and make a few changes. One idea I have been looking into is the use of voice recognition to control my MP3 computer.
I must admit I did toy with the idea of changing to centrafuse for it's built in voice recognition but having had a bit of a play with it, I did not like the interface or the way the program worked as it was nowhere near as user friendly as media engine!!!
As far as I can see, there are two possibilities for controlling ME by voice:
1) use some speech recognition software to mimic key presses for keys that are assigned to the functions within ME's options.
2) Use speech recognition software that allows the programming of macros (ie combinations of button menu commands etc), and make macros for the commands. (is that doable or I have I misunderstood how the speech software works???)
There are pros and cons for each method, which are making it hard for me to decide which to try. The first method should the most simple to get working initially, but it would probably make it quite complicated to control ME as for things like scrolling down a long list you could end up having to say "press down" for each line of a list, which would be tiresome.
The second method, If I understand it correctly, would require knowing the commands within ME itself, is that right? Would this be possible??
Does anyone use speech recognition to control ME??? If so, how have you got it working and what software do you recommend???
ANy help or thoughts would be very much appreciated!!!
Just had a quick look at NaviVoice and it might well be able to do what I want, tho the setting up looks a little complicated initially.
If I understand it correctly I could get it working correctly by the following method:
1) Setup keys for each of the funstions within Media Engines options.
2) Setup NaviVoice to replicate each of the key presses
This would give me basic control of all of ME's functions right?
Then for more complete and useful control I could use macros for example if I was playing some music and wanted to do a search by artist I could use the following steps.
1) say the command for quit which would take me to the homepage of ME
2) say the correct Up/Down commands to highlight "Browse media"
3) say the command for a macro which would replicate the key presses for
'search' then 'down' then 'down' (as search by artist is the second option) then 'enter'
For entering text in the searches am I right in thinking I'd command NaviVoice by saying Type then speaking each letter or would I need to tell it to type each letter individually ie searching for green day:
I'd say "Type" "g" "r" "e" "e" "n....
or would I need to say "Type g" "Type r" "Type e" "Type e" etc etc???
Any help you can give me really would be appreciated!!!
Almost everything in your post is correct, except you don't have to say Type. After you said the trigger command (stock its "Boris") it will listen for 10 seconds. If it executes a command, it will listen for another 10 seconds.

I am planning on doing the same thing as you. I want to control media engine with NV, and you could save me lots of time, and get me jump started if you were willing to share those files.

Yeah no worries, sorry it's taken me ages to reply, not been about recently. I'll sot something out with the files when I get chance.
