Thread: Applying Skins

Good luck, I've been dealing with this since march, BTW I have found no fix other than deal with Torque and not being able to see crap in the daylight.

When you download a skin you should have a skn file and a directory in the compressed file you downloaded.

1. Put the .skn file in the skin directory.
2. put the skin folder in the skin directory..
Do not empty the folder of the skin file you downloaded into the skin directory.. it has to have its own directory.

So if you downloaded SAMPLE.ZIP you will have 2 files in it
SAMPLE.SKN
<SAMPLE> directory

What did o wrong???
i downloadet the file, extact it, copied the xxx.skn and the Folder in to the skin-folder. I can selct the skin but the comes the Error.....
Is it a problem with the fixed resolution????

What resolution are you trying to run.. do you have a copy of the error.log file we can see?

Is ME installed in the standard c:\program files\mediaengine directory?

when you open the skn-file with notepad, are there comma's

in the iconparameters like this example ;

IconLeft=0,6132812
Icontop=0,5976562
IconWidth=0,1660156
IconHeight=0,2239583

If you have points (dots) try to change them into comma's

This problem you get when using European localisation and
downloading skins with US localisation.

Note : every icon in the main menu has a set of 4 offset params

Sorry, not possible... i made the same as done yesterday to build a bugreport and it works fine! In german we say: " Der Virus sitzt vor der Tastatur" or translated: " The Virus was sitting in the front of the Keyboard"
The only think i made, i started ME with the current skin bevore i added the other skins, maybe it works now!

Only one little problem: with the "torque" skin the GPS-Button works fine and start the Programm that i need. The other skins only start "ext. app." The LOG says:
17.08.2005 09:18:57 - saved audio data
17.08.2005 09:20:17 - MediaEngine terminated cleanly by user
17.08.2005 09:24:57 - Winamp was restarted
17.08.2005 09:25:00 - Current skin does not contain GPS information. Using Default GPS skin

I think, i have to edit the skin with the skinmaker, yes?

skinmaker is only a tools to generate the skn file.
If you examine skn-files you can make changes with notepad too.

The tool is very handy for exact positioning of the main-menu
buttons.

Error found: if you mark "use addaptive font scaling" the problem come back...
i removed the mark and it works fine. next, i try to edit the skin....

it´s easy if i understood it! i made the changes and it works! Function 4 to 7 !
Next i try to make my own skin because a BMW-skin for VW is not realy the best....But big Buttoms are bette to handle with Touch-Screen...
