Question on how MP3 displays in playlist..

Is there any way to get ME to display the playlist by filename while an ID3 tag is present? Currently I have all my ID3 tags deleted and I've got the filenames in the following format: "Band - Album - Track# - Song.mp3". I'm thinking I'm going to retag everything for other reasons not including ME.. Whenever an ID3 tag is present, ME only displays in the format of "Band - Song" when I'd still like it to show up in ME the way I have the files named if possible. Thanks!

You will definately want to clean up your tagging issues. Extracting psuedo 'tags' from filenames is problematic because there's no metadata to tell us what naming convention you used, and anyone has different preferences on how they want their files organized. A tool I like to use to retag large chunks of music is called EagsOn! Give it a try.

I do plan to redo all my tags. I have MP3 Tag Studio3 which I have figured out how to use it to make tags from the file name so I'll probably use that, and also The Godfather which I found to be a little more complicated..

Would it be possible to add in functionality to allow you to format how ME displays the songs titles? Obviously it doesn't need to be as in depth as winamp is but just for example in Winamp if i wanted it to show up the way I like I would go to Prefs -> Titles -> Advanced title display format and put in: $filepart(%filename%) and it will display the titles as(using Disturbed as an example):
    Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists - 05 - Stricken

Instead of just how ME displays it when theres tags which is:

    Disturbed - Stricken

I realize most people organize all their MP3's in folders by band/album and make playlists etc. but I don't listen to a wide varitey of genre's etc and I prefer to just leave my entire collection of MP3's on the playlist and leave it on shuffle.. Problem is then I have say 5+ albums from one band and its just a big mess of songs with no easy way to see which album is which and then its harder to find specific songs if I wanted. I guess I'm just wierd Thanks

Not really. I can see how that would be useful, but it would require a major rewrite for us.

Ah I see, I know zip about coding so I wasn't aware it would be a major issue.. Was worth a shot! Thanks.

The work it would take to allow the user to define how the lists would populate wouldn't be difficult at all, but rebuilding the controls that display them would be a major undertaking.

So there is no way to have media engine only disply the song title? Maby make it work through winamp? My problem is it shows artist and song name, but the song name rarly fits in the window.....
