I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here. You can't assign buttons inside of ME if we don't have functions to assign them to. Maybe what you're wanting is to pass certain keystrokes on to another app, but I can't really tell. If so, then no you can't. If not, please refine your question.

I think arrow keys are hardcoded to up, down left and right navigation functions. I'd have to look to be sure. Again, you should probably refine your question.

We use winamp 5.0.2 for all audio file playback. You can try to replace it with a newer version but your mileage may vary. Just replace winamp.exe in the M.E. folder, and put any plugins you need in the plugins folder.

M.E. is contained primarily in one executable, so functionally the answer to your question is yes.

Currently no, but it does save where you have it for each application. You could manually edit your apps.lst and change the third element in each line (the pipe character is the delimiter) to 3 or 4 (I forget which is bottom right).

This is not possible. I was planning to make a shutdown menu that would optionally pop up to give you the option to reboot, exit, power down, etc. but I don't think I'll be able to get that into the upcoming release.

1) i want to assing the home button a keystroke, among others. You have a place where you can assing keystroks, but it doesn't gfive me that option. I gues yoru answer is no for now, but if you can, can you add support for the griffen power mate and ShuttleX? Its kinda like mapping the keys on the IR remote, only you have 5 buttons to work with, but if you can, i'll show you waht i did with the shuttle that allows me to naviaget therought eexlorer shell without touching my mouse or keybaord and maybe you cna sinttitue a simliar design?

Ok, that makes sense. No, unfortunately there's no way to setfocus to those controls as it exists now, save the main menu. Sorry, would take a little bit more of a rewrite than I'm willing / able to perform at this point in time.

My suggestion would be to look into an IRMAN or another type of wireless remote. I wish it were something I could fix with a couple hours of coding, but we wrote much of the application around the premise that people would minimally use either a remote, a keyboard or a touchscreen for a primary user interface.

It would be easier to embark on this project if I had any of the aforementioned hardware, but unfortunately I don't. When we started writing MediaEngine we always hoped we'd be able to keep it freeware and still have it make us rich and famous. Unfortunately fame and most especially fortune have yet to grace us with their presence. (hint: there's a donate button on our website) It might also be wise to mention that there's a FAQ devoted to getting support added for new devices.

I understnad, i will see how to get by. I'm just tryng to limit myself form looking down as the days were i can have a slap fight with my passengers and maintain strict control of the vechile are gone. I can't even change the radio station without loosing focus.

I know Esc Its acutally programmed to Esc. However, i need something that wont' kill the music!

As for an exit solutoin, mapping alt+F4 is a great way, but i may want to get into the options mode to change the settings, is there a key to do that? Or is that Esc too?

hehe, i know, but i don't have a spare shuttleXpress to give away, nor the funds to afford to give you a gift. Maybe for your birthday....but you need to get me a present too! Anyways, thsi is one of those neat-o devices that you don't need the hardware to program or install as it simply eulates the preexisting deivces that shoudl exsist on yoru system and runs simple to complex keystrokes from them. That's all.

You'll get your donation once i get this system working with yoru software the way i need it. I gurantee you though, you won't be rich from it!

Anyways, i read the manual for the ShuttleXpress and , i think i figured out a back door way that will be slightly annoying to program, but may give me the control i desire...Sweet! I'll post my findings later!

I still need a way to get to home without stopping the music .

Alt+F4 won't close MediaEngine, and there is no way to get into settings without a mouse attached to the system. I'm not really sure why we blocked the Alt+F4 shortcut, so that could probably be fixed. I would have to program another shortcut key to handle settings, but I'm not sure you'll be able to navigate anywhere useful without a mouse.

There is no way to get to the main menu without stopping the music. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is written, and always will be. I don't mean to be a naysayer, but for the time you're going to invest in your gadget you'd be money and time ahead to just get an IR remote.

I not only got it to control ME in nearly its entirety, it has selected modes per screen that i can cycle through, so i have a mode for genreal, a mode for music, my DVDs, and when i get my GPS reciever working, i'll have a mode for that too

The only two buttons on the remote that isn't on the keypress are power off and GPS. If you can include those on the keypress i'm be running skippy. I also need a mode to gtet back to otpions.

however, i hit a bug today
I opened up to eFirefox and i couldnt' get back to the ME shell. had to CAD to shut it down and strart it up agian. i hope i didn't lose any settings:P.

So all i need is a hotkeyyed shutdown, a hotkeyyed options, and hotkeys to muslic, movies and GPS and i think i'll shut up for a while.

The 2.3.4 release will have a GPS keyboard shortcut. I'm planning on releasing it tomorrow.

There was a bug in an older release that did this, but it's since been fixed. =D

I've added a keyboard handler to the main menu in the 2.3.4 build that will now close the program with alt+f4.

If I have time I might implement a power button for keyboard, but I'm not sure I will.

I was going to implement a keyboard shortcut for settings, but it appears we already have. Use the key you programmed to SWMP.
