Are you playing them from the newest music list?
I have had this problem in the past where the database had changed but ME hadn't updated properly. I fixed it by restarting the PC, doing a database refresh and then closing and reopening ME

keep in mind that even if you delete and rebuild the database for some reason it doesnt refresh the now playing music list. You have to go in and re-select the album or folder that you were playing for the change to register

This can also happen if you add a file extension in M/E but don't add the related plugin for winamp (i.e. WMP, AAC, etc).

Which (major) file types are not supported in the default install then?

I won't go into a list, since the concept of a 'major type' is highly subjective. Read the FAQ for more information on this.
