    Flicker Free Graphics!

Maybe its just me or its the program itself, but when changing menus, and updating text, and scrolling through list, its just not smooth??? So is it my computer or is that how the software is, i know its written in VB, but theres ways to remove the flicker...direct x, and pictures for lettering like winamp uses...

Depends on the program you're talking about.....?

My VB program seems as flicker-proof as any other so far, even on a Celeron 400. Maybe your machine is a little overtaxed doing other things? Is Winamp driving it to 40%+ processor useage? Is memory completely filled and the computer forced to rely on swapfile useage?

Flicker can be many things, but rarely attributed to the program, unless it's just plain bad programming. VB can cause issues if you have it tracking too many processes (timers etc) at once, but then, it's right back to the issue of hardware, ne?

Im talking about mediacar..I posted in mediacar right??? unless it got moved....But im running a M1000 with 513 megs of ram, so i dont think its my PC, and when using the standard list and label controls in vb, it has a very slow refresh rate so it that may cause the flicker, but when moving from the main menu to the mp3 menu, all the icons just kind of show up over each other, like the mp3 menu doesnt give the main menu enough time to unload if you understand what i mean, it would be great if mediacar used the alpha blending control to fade the menu in and out...

I notice a flicker on screens displaying the time, when it is updating the seconds. Could be related to how Coyote is displaying the time.

Well, i ran Media Car on three separate machines, so its not the comp, i remember when AutoPlay used to do that, and then he converted to DirectX and actually using images for the font instead of a label and it fixed the problem, so maybe mediacar will head in that direction later on...

My CarBox software does the same. Sometimes you have to trade off flickering against speed. To stop the little clock flickering completely, you need to double-buffer the whole application window. That stops the flicker, but slows the application too much in my opinion.

Oh for the good old days of waiting for vsync

Car changed for TVR Griffith 500, so computer de-installed. Using a Dension 100ix w/60Gb HD unit in the interim.
