    Loading codecs

Please forgive my confusion, but I'm getting an error that says the codec is not available.

I have just built my car computer and it is not hooked to the internet or any network. On my home computer when I had this problem I simply used Windows Media Player and made an update thru the internet. Then everythign seemed to work fine, both in Windows Media Player and MediaCar.

Can someone walk me thru step by step on what I can do to perhaps copy or load these on my carputer. This is fairly new to me and I'm not quite familiar.

    Thanks in advance.

Every movie file has a 4CC code associted with it that tells what codec it should use. You can find out what codec a movie has by using a utility like G-Spot which should also tell you all hte files on your computer that the codec needs, if you copy these files over, you'll also have to run regsvr32 on them to register them. The easier way is to just google the 4CC code from G-Spot and the word "codec" then download the installer for the codec. Alternativly you could just google for "codec pack" and download and install one of them that should contain most of the codecs you need. Be wary of some of these codecs though as many are written to very poor standards and may crash or overwrite some of your other codecs.

I think you'll find that 3ivx or direct show will surfice for your codec issues.

    try www.afterdawn.com or www.moviecodecs.com

There are codec packs available that will load every possible codec you may ever need. Try searching for Nimo Codec Pack.

OK, I downloaded codec for Windows Player 9 and that makes my movie play on Windows player, but still not working on Media Car. Am I doing something wrong?

I see MediaCar uses WinAmp but I don't see what it uses for videos. Thanks again for the help. Sorry for the confusion.

As above, you need FFDSHOW and 3ivx
