I noticed that there was mention of a later version of MC that will support Radiator supported Radiocards. The one function I see missing from both, the current MC and Radiator setups, is the lack of the AM frequency. I know most modern day / young people listen mainly to FM frequencies but I guess I'm an old timer! I like the talk radio, sports casts, traffic and weather updates without having to pay XM monthly fees.
I use the GemTek Radioman AM/FM Serial port radio interface. Is anyone else looking for AM station support with their carputer that wants to run their system without a HU?

hehe! and you're positively sure there is NO ONE ELSE? or just you don't need AM support?
There are many here that want AM and FM but most have given up on AM Radio for the carputer.
Whynot post a link to what you have

I would like to give up my headunit, but the only thing that keeps me from doing that is the lack of AM...
Would it be that hard to write AM into the radio section?
I sometime like to listen to AM talk, I'm sure theres others too.
Well, what I have is the Gemtek AM/FM Radioman Serial port version. I bought one for $20 and it works great under Windows XP. The issue is the software that comes with it. It's very outdated and even though radiator does support this device, it does not support the AM function of the device. I was trying to see if the MediaCar radio interface could be modulated since it utilizes the radio.dll but I'm not sure what functions the radio.dll actually handles. I haven't looked much into it but I've been playing with my radio device and I've started noting what serial commands are used to adjust frequencies, change bands, etc. I wanted to see if there are others that are wanting AM band as well or if everyone is going XM...Originally Posted by antimatter

There are many of us who want AM...let me stress that. If you could come up with some sort of skinnable application that could be ran as an embeded applications in the major front ends like mediacar, media engine and froddoplayer many of us will switch over to using that radio.
It may be a problem for those who only have one serial port and are using it for the gps but now adays everything is ran off of USB
Please continue your development. Also the fastest way to get this supported in any of the front ends is by purchasing one and sending it to the developer. most likley they will either buy it from you or send it back when they are done.
Also how is the reception. have you used it in an car situation? have you hooked it up to your cars antenna? I would love to AM and FM with a slick skinnable interface.

I thought about purhasing one and sending it to Coyote if he would consider adding functionality for this device within MediaCar but since he has been unavailable at the moment, I may do something to hold me over until he returns to see if he could accept the radio and hopefully add it to his software package.Originally Posted by antimatter
I also have only one serial port available on my motherboard. Someone mentioned that they successfully used a USB adaptor on this device and it worked through USB so I may be doing the same once I get my GPS mouse.
The attenna that sits on top of this device to gain it's reception is pretty cool. It is a simple antenna with an RCA plug at it's base that plugs into the circular radio via the RCA plug. Creating a cable to go from RCA to a car antenna should be quite easy and is what I will be attempting soon to make sure it holds it's reception as it does with the stock antenna but I'm going to have to rig it so that when my computer is on, the power antenna on my car will extend and retract when my computer is off.
Well since you have this please post on the quality. I am contemplating sending one to FroddoBaggins if he is willing toeventually support it within froddoplayer.
I am really curious how well the reception is within a car environment
