    Problems with WMA Playback

For some reason the WMA files will not play!? MP3's play fine but when the playlist comes to a WMA it just stops playing.

Also, I have a question how to use the playlist. When in the playlist screen, can you select a folder then add it to the playlist and stay in the playlist screen to add more? Whenever I select a folder to add to the list, it automatically switches to play screen and starts playing the files. I've tried both of the 'add' buttons in the lpaylist screen and they both do the same thing!?!?

It's probably a winamp problem, do wma's playback in winamp outside of MC?

Hmm... they don't. Can I install another version of winamp and just point MediaCar to it's location?

I had this problem as well. If you are using MediaCar I found that .wmas wouldn't play. But when I actually downloaded WinAmp and installed it, the correct drivers were installed (in the registry I guess) and .wmas played fine. I didn't even have to point MC to the newly installed WinAmp. Just the installation set everything straight.

I read this suggestion on a thread I read on this board. Good luck.

Awesome, got WMA to work. Had to install Winamp 2.91, then uninstall both MediaCar and Winamp, then reinstalled MediaCar and it now plays WMA's. LOL.

Now, can anyone tell me how to add more files to a currently playing playlist? Or, how to add more than one folder to a playlist?

In the playlist window there is a "Select" and "Select+" button but they both just add the selected folder into the play screen and start playing. I can't seem to just "ADD" more files to be played. Am I not seeing something?

I had the same problem at one point. Are you using variable bitrate WMAs? I think the mediacar installed winamp doesn't support them. Regular WMAs worked fine though.

I'm not sure but I don't think so. They are all 192kbps WMA's ripped using Windows Media Player. Ya, I know... but it's so simple to just pop in a CD and let it rip for me. They would all be MP3's if Winamp did it for free.

There are plenty of free programs that will rip your CDs to MP3s and fill in track titles from cddb. I use dBPowerAMP works awesome and it's free.

The short solution was copy the map plugin's from your winamp 5.xx to your mediacar folder and go by the way ;-)

By the way, why bother using WMA in the first place if you don't do a lossless rip ? ok.. it takes up a lot more diskspace but in the end, try listening to a cd and then switch to the same cd ripped to mp3/wma ripped in 192.. you'll see what I mean..

All my wma's are ripped 1092 Kbps.. without any loss of quality..too bad indeed winamp doesn't like 40Mb files for one song...

I had this problem too, i solved it by downlaoding latest version of winamp and the winamp WMA input plugin and all worked fine

ripping CD's to 1092kbps sounds to me like a bit of overkill - though its a surefire way of making sure you have a good quality copy, I can't tell the difference between 256 and 1092 - but then again, i don't have a top-of-the-line soundcard. I do notice a difference between 192kb WMA's and CD but it's not that bad.

if it were me, i'd rather have them at 256kbps and use the money i saved on an extra 200 gig's of disk space on a better sound-card!
