It seems that you are able to download the drivers from Intel and use them but it seems the difficulty is the setting up.

Well, there's no reason why one couldn't download the driver from nvidia/ati and install it. After all, that's what one would have to do with Windows. Drivers exist, they just not supported by the MeeGo team.

Is that really the only issue preventing use with other graphics cards? They made it seem more difficult-I was thinking it had to do with the GPU extensions their graphics framework used.

That's the only issue. MeeGo as an open source distro cannot ship with those closed drivers because of their licenses (usually requires individuals to agree to something before they download it). IIRC, the UI in the IVI release is, iirc, just using plain software rendering or hardware rendering depending on your hardware support.

The MeeGo handset UI runs awesomely on Nvidia hardware. I even have it running here at work with the open source ATI graphics driver (although there are some GL extensions that some apps use that make them not work so well with this driver).

Well I prefer that to them bundling those horrible opensource drivers that killed my ubuntu install (anytime you have to put a giant notice on your download page about how to uninstall a new feature it shouldn't have been included as the default in the first place). I'll have to give this a shot then..thanks
