Easily Modified Head Units for Mimics

It is quite clear that the mimics module is pretty easy to hook up to your standard 4 wire resistive Lilliputs. It's basically plug and play. But for those of us who wish to still have a head unit as part of our system, it seems the most logical choice would be to buy a double din aftermarket touchscreen head unit. That way, when the phone is not in the car with us, we still have touch screen head unit functionality. Has anyone had any experience with modifying a double din head unit to work with the mimics module?

What I think would be the easiest way to make it work would be to buy one of the 6 inch models with detachable screens. Then you could just relocate the main head unit, and keep the screen part behind the dash. This would allow plenty of room to modify the touch screen and add the mimics module.

What seems hard to find out is which head units are resistive touch screens (Do they make capacitive double din head units yet?). And of these touch screens which have the standard 4 wire resistive ribbon cable that is compatible with the mimics module.

Any thoughts, ideas, or past experience would be helpful. Thanks!

Anybody got anything on this? MIMICS seems like such a great product, its a shame it is limited to certain displays. I'm sure if anyone could confirm that even 1 double din aftermarket head unit could be modded to work with it, the MIMICS team would see a huge increase in sales.

The initial release of the mimics did not support headunit intergration. Thats why we created the switcher add-on, it allows you to switch between your phone and your headunit/factory system/car-PC. We have tried this on a car-pc in a car and it worked fine.

We have had a few people intergrate the module with a headunit, have'nt seen any videos yet, nor had any complaints. Basically any 4-wire touchscreen headunit with A/V inputs will work, so this covers about 99% of them

We are still wating for the first person to intergrate this module with a headunit and *show* a demo of it working It can definately be done, but no one has shown us yet.

When the Android version gets released shortly im sure you will see a bunch of headunit/OEM intergration setups, as most customers will be meshing the module with their OEM or aftermarket headunits.
