I'm new to this skinning task. I was wondering is it possible to make a Map Monkey skin with all the buttons and info along the left? I want to maximize the height of the map. The width can be sacraficed.

No, the principal buttons of the Main menus are obligatory in low (at least those principal) and for the time being him they are not able skinning in other part.
I prefer to privilege the dimension of the great buttons, easy-to-use in auto, instead that some millimeter of map in vision.

It'd be quite nice to have the opinion of moving your key bar, e.g. like you can move the windows taskbar. i'd love to have all my buttons on the right, and the map on the left. or split the bar half left half right with the map in the middle, eta on top and quick keys below... can someone do that for me?

I do not agree. I like being able to se more of the top two lines. At least the amount showing now.
