Thread: Skins

Trying to make a skin, which isnt working too well. I dont see all of the template lines in all of the template menus. I guess this is what I mean. Im not entirely sure HOW to make a skin anyway, but, heres what I see.

The templates really arent designed to work with any of the skin builders out there. Though you can if your really good with graphics. Open the templates in a graphics program and all of the lines will appear. It looks like the skin builder you are using is resizing the template, thus messing it up so the lines dont show. The dotted lines are just showing users where the button areas are the respond to being clicked. So when you build your skin, you would place(draw) your buttons within these areas for each control. You would need to create a not pressed skin and a pressed skin, and in some cases a no audio playing skin. You can look at the default skin and see which files are required. If you leave any skins out, it will give you errors. The not pressed skin is just the regular skin you see before you press anything. The pressed skin is what happens or shows when you click in the regions of the dotted lines. FYI...You cant resize or move the controls around, they are all hard coded. I hope this was helpfull. Im using Photoshop CS, this will work right? What I also tried doing was copying the Default Skin, then modifying the colors and adding images overtop of the already set buttons, basically replacing your buttons with mine. But when I get to the status bar, which shows the progress of the songs, trying to change that, then I get an error and everything locks out. Ideas on that? And yes, your post above did help, quite a bit. But now I have this error.

Can you give me a screenshot?

Heres the error I get. This happens when I change the color of the audio_vertical_slider.jpg and its a critical error. I cant fix it. Even if I set everything back to original its stuck. Heres what Ive changed so far...Granted, Its a Tomb Raider Skin and Its one of my real first big attempts. I was just getting ready to change the audio_normal and audio_pressed files. I DID change around the vertical slider bar, but that was as far as I got.

It must be a bad filename, like main_audio.jpg.jpg or something like that. check for that.

I thought that too. I completely removed that 'default' folder from where it was, and put the origional there instead. So that everything went back unchanged. I didnt change the first folder, I just copied it and then changed stuff, so I didnt change anything in the folder that it should be pulling files from. The only way to get rid of that error is to reinstall.

[edit]Fixed it. Alright, Dont ask me how I fixed it, I have no idea, I deleted a few files, and changed the folder name, loaded MI it errored saying couldnt find the files, I closed MI, then changed the name of the Default folder back to default, and it worked. With the skins I made and the horizontal bar is the one I made...weird. But its fixed. Now, how do I change the Horizontal audio bar, the one that shows where the song is at as far as finished and not, color?

[edit 2]Alright, figured that out too. Still a work in progress then. Would anyone be interested in a TR skin anyway?
