    MI Shuffle Problems

I love MI and I have been using it for about 3 or 4 months now. I have zero complaints about it other than the shuffling. It seems that the algorhytm (or whatever) that is used is not very random. I find myself listening to the same music all the time. I have some rather large playlist. Upwards of 500 songs, so random should be pretty random. But it seems to be doing it on the small ones too. For instance, Say you have songs A-Z on your list. You pick song A and then hit shuffle. Next song is J then M then Q. Say next time I pick song J as my first song. Well it seems that it will then go to M and then Q like before, kind of like there is a set number of songs for it to skip to be random. Any ideas or help that can be thrown my way on something that I am doing wrong?

I just want to be a 100% happy user

Sorry for the problems, but the code I used for randomizing was all of about 4 or 5 lines of code, so it is incredibly simple. I will look into different code for the shuffle function. I have noticed this in development too, but thought it was because I was only testing with 10 to 15 songs. I will make sure it works better in the playlists. I am working on XM/Sirius satellite radio right now so it may take a while before this is fixed. Thanks for the input.

other than the shuffle issue, it is wonderful. It backbones off of WMP, right? (This is probably horribly simplified) But, can't you just use WMP's shuffling?

Not a programmer here by any means, so slap me if I'm being ignorant...

O, and one other thing for constructive criticism. Is it possible to have the list read the v1 v3 tags in the list instead of reading it once it plays? All of my songs are in the format "Artist - Song" So if there is a long Artist name then I have no idea what song it is. I think most CD Rippers rip in this format for the filename.

    Just throwing that out there.

Thanks for the compliments! Using WMP in programming allows you to use many features, but in order to use the shuffle feature I would have to program it to use its playlist functions which are terribly complicated and it would require a great deal more of coding thus possibly slowing the program down. I wanted to keep it simple, so I decided to make the filelist actually be the file system. Then I applied the shuffle feature to the filelist, probably why it doesnt work very well.
I usually have all full albums, so I arrange my folders with "Artist - Album" , then in that folder I set up 01 - song name.mp3, then 02 - song name.mp3 etc. All cd rippers have the ability to change the settings on how it produces the filename. I use audiograbber, here is the webaddress for their online tutorial that explains how to change the filename format. This program is totally free and 100% functioning.

I like to use audiograbber because it is painfully simple and it has the control over the conversion that I want. Alot of other programs build catalogs, and synchronize the folders and blah blah blah. I just want to stick a cd in the drive, click a few things, hit Go, see the progress, then go the output folder and move and arrange as I see fit. Hope this helps.

Sorry no, I have still been working on a couple of custom versions for private vendors.
