I had this problem too. What happened is you set MI up as a front end. I pressed ctl, alt, del and found the c drive to delete MI and then reinstall it. After that go into MI and go to settings. Set explorer as the front end. This should fix your problem.

Thanks selmerguy, yes Mobile Impact when set as the shell will replace your entire desktop when you select it as the shell. to Fix it is just as he said, go into settings and click on Set Explorer as Shell.

Where can I set shell=explorer.exe instead of mobile impact without re-install. Regedit ? or may be windows ini file?

My screen is set to 640x480. I can go into mobile impact and then settings but can not see where to click to set explorer as shell

To follow up on my experience... after my last post here, everything was working... I never even launched mobile impact after that. a few days later I rebooted my laptop and my damn desktop disappeared again.

Clicking on "Set Explorer as Shell" did nothing.

I finally got fed up and did a system restore from a date before installing mobile impact. That solved my problem, although it's not really a solution.

Sorry that you are having this problem. Regedit will work if you can get it to that point. Here is where the registry key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell = explorer.exe

That should fix it.

Crtl-Alt-Del, file, run new task and then regedit
