Any possibility of integrating a CD rip feature?

I think it'd be nice to able to have your friend give you a cd to play in your car, and either while you're playing it, or even after yuo play it, have an integrated/embedded CD ripping capability.

I was hoping this was a simple application, seeing as how mobile impact is a WMP based frontend, and WMP has a CD ripper built into it. I don't know exactly where the best place to put this feature would be, but I think it would be beneficial to have as an option instead of having to go home and rip it to your homePC and then transferring it to your carPC with whatever median you use.

Possible features/settings, to adjust the ripping format between wma/mp3 or whatever else you want, and adjusting the bitrate if possible, personally its mp3/192, but I know everyone has their preference, and to be able to set a default location to rip to, ie. "My Music", and the CD Rip screen would need an onboard keyboard so we can input the information, and have a "next" button to go to the next track/data field, very similar to the layout of WMP

again, this is just an idea, if its not practical, then by all means disregard this, but if it is possible, it'd be a great addition to this amazing frontend you have created.

Actually I built a CD rip/burn module into a special version, but it uses a 3rd party programming component that is very expensive. I tried creating a rip feature within the programming that existed but it didnt work right. The component that I use is from foxburner.com. Let me say this first of all, Foxburner is the best ripping program that I have ever found! There is a trial version of it available for download from the site. It takes about 30 -60 seconds to rip an audio track into an mp3, which is more than twice as fast as anything I have ever seen!. If you want to purchase it, I would be more than happy to create a special version for you. Its $165.00 for the Audiograbber part. Let me know.

hmm, thats a little too much for my wallet, but is there no way to integrate Windows media player's cd rip feature? I'm by all means not a programmer at all, I just thought/hoped that since mobile impact is based off WMP with the audio/visualizations and whatnot, that it would be plausible to integrate the CD ripper as well.

reddeath, have you seen CDex? Its a free application that uses CD-Text to rip cd tracks into mp3's and keeps the ID-3 tags....

Maybe you should try that, and see if that works the way you need/want it to for free :)

It doesnt look like CDEX offers any source and the app isnt touch screen friendly. The version that I built for mine is totally touch friendly, even entering the tag info, and it also has a cddb feature too. If I were to use a package I would use Audiograbber from http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/. I will eventually have a royalty free license from foxburner when I can afford it, but until then I will just have to download my mp3s. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry, not with Windows Media player. The programming component that is used for Windows Media Player doesnt support it. Windows Media Player is coded with both visual basic and c++. The portion that does the cd ripping is in c++ which is not available in the Visual Basic part.

Sounds like you need to make a friend that knows how to code in C++ hehe
