Winamp can do something alon these lines, play specific eq settings based on genre etc, im not sure but i think it can also do it based on track name aswell, it remebers what you set for each track
Why not just edit the song and keep the original at home?

Or you could just normalize all of your mp3's. is there a program to equilize mp3 volume levels?

Maybe there is a plug-in that normalize on the fly without modifying the original files...possible?
I am working on volume normalization. There are many ways to do this.. as The Grinch Pointed out the easiest way is to allow a volume level tracked at each song level. I am also working on a way to do it where it does it on the fly, volume normalization. I hope to have this in Beta 1. It will definitely be in the 1.0 release though.Originally Posted by Ricky327

This is built into iTunes.
Its free.
Use it.
The volume normalization isnt on the fly, thats too processor intensive I would think. iTunes looks at ALL yer files and normalizes the volume based on each file. It does it everytime u add a new one, so its cached or added to the ID3 tag or something.
I encourage everyone to use it, takes all the headaches away that we all talk about, organizing, volume, playlists. And thats not cuz im an Apple freek. There is a PC version for those not in the know.
SOmeone should make a front end for it, or incorporate into another frontend.......................................

I am an Apple freak too... it is the bomb jukebox software, but does not work for a car by any means.Originally Posted by sdashiki

I don't like normalizing. The problem with normalizing is that it can kill the harmonics in the recording. It can make crappy encodings sound crappier.Originally Posted by sfay93
Everyone's audio system is a little different. I've got many MP3's that are just a touch too heavy on the bass, and I have to turn the volume down to save my speakers. I'd rather set up the song for my car once, then forget it. And if one of my friends would like to plug in his USB key and swap music (legal ones of course), he/she won't have to worry about copying any of my permanent tweaks.

Haha... yeah XCode is great. I am sure you could build a great frontend controller for iTunes for the car with all the AppleScript exports, etc. Problem is it will only run on Mac OS XOriginally Posted by sdashiki
