I know that they were planning to sell it. But they had also promised to continue providing the software to us for free. They repeated this MANY times. Now that it's retail, the software has vanished. We can no longer access it. Am I the only one that's noticed this? If there is a new link for us to download MMC for free, please let me know. Because if there is, I must be blind.

Some of you probably think that I'm just whining. You are 100% correct. I've given up on whining about oil prices, so I need something else to complain about now.

I agree. It smells funny. I support their right to sell their output, but they were involved in this forum on the premise that they contributed their software as recompense for using our knowledge and experience to make the software saleable.

Personally, I'm not too concerned. I found that over the life of their development cycle, functionality appeared and disappeared constantly and they fixed some bits, and broke others. It was never good enough to actually make it into my car, on the basis that they never managed to get all the features that they promised running at the same time.

I hope for their sakes (and their customers) that it's all a little more together for their $2.5K system.

I'm agree right with Grinch. It was clearly realized this software would be for sale, but it was also clearly realized as a favor of helping them design the systems feature base and bug testing that we would be entitled to the final release of MMC. This is what ****ed Grinch off, and me as well. Its that they ran behind our backs. I wouldn't mind seeing what they have been to achieve, but i'm certain its not top notch.

Having that said, I really don't care for the software anymore. The testing stages were weird at best. Features here, features there, features vanishing. In total, the product we saw was never truely ready. For the price they're asking, I hope they have it right. I myself will stick with the best being Centrafuse, FrodoPlayer, RoadRunner, or any of the other excellent fully working systems.

So write to Hybrid and ask for a copy of the 1.0 released version and quit whining because you don't see an obvious way to get something you once had for free.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

You're missing the point. I could care less if it's free or not. The fact is we were led to believe that they were contributing members of this forum, when in fact they were not. I played with this software and reported bugs with the belief that I was helping a cause that would benefit the mp3car community. Now it seems that it was a waste of my time. If Hybrid is not going to keep up with their end of the bargan, this section should be removed from mp3car.com as it no longer serves a purpose.

They said it was free for MP3car members, but never said anything about publicizing a download link... for all you know they could be busy.... e-mail them first, then let us know what they say

And about their beta-testing the software was so immature at the time we tested it out that I dont really think they benefited from those runs.... as many have said they fixed one thing, broke another, yada yada... so yeah, maybe you lost some time testing it, but I would definitely NOT say that they got a lot from you....

As a professional in Quality Assurance and testing for a large telecommunications company I would have to completely disagree. I work with developers all the time. You wouldn't believe the number of bugs that developers miss in their own code. Regardless what you may believe, the testing phase is an invaluable phase of the development process.

TheGrinch, unfortunately you dont catch my drift..... let me put it differently: with the number of bugs generated, and cleaned, and re-generated and re-cleaned at each subsequent release, any benefit would soon have been burried under a mountain of new/revived bugs/ and features.

Of course they will have benefited from having some testers, some things we gave ideas or requests and they resolved, but seriously though, it is nothing like MediaCar users...

Again the main course of action remains: thread starter should email Hybrid and A***S***K.... who knows maybe they really did have the problems they said, and maybe they still are working on getting a product...

just cause you saw it on a website doesnt mean that they finished the software and didnt tell us anything... it actually doesnt mean ANYTHING.... of course, I'm not excluding that they HAVE finished the software, but nothing that I've skimmed rapidly through (i.e. this thread and its links) indicates with any degree of certainty that they already finished the software
