That's what it seems like. Anyone will say that this project had a ton of potential (and still does).

I'm not privy to personal information, but the jist is that these guys have some personal stuff going on, so thats fine with me. However, DC++ might be a way to distribute if the website is having some issues.

Yeah, this has bugged me a lot about some of the mp3car folks. They demand free software constantly ("I just personally don't believe in paying for software! I believe in Open Source!"), but then, when the updates don't come out every week, they flip out.

This is why developers try to SELL their applications, so they can focus on the application fulltime, but to go full time they need income from it, otherwise they can't quit their fulltime jobs... And anyone with a ton of money to begin with is likely not a programmer, and wouldn't stop running their businesses to write some free software anyway.

Why don't people think about it realistically? The people who ***** and moan that software isn't free are the same people who wouldn't ever think of quitting their McDonalds Cashier job to write code (primarily because they always say something like "If I could code... blah blah... But since I dont code... You do it!")

I've started a business in the car computer software world myself, and I'm very hesistant to publicize what I'm working on because of these types of problems. So many people expect so much for free, and while free alternatives are excellent (I use free software all the time), sometimes a commercial version can provide additional functionality, faster patch releases, and useful technical support.

There's a reason that businesses usually avoid sourceforge style open source. Have you checked recently how many ABANDONED projects there are? Who wants to rely on that.

For longetivity, solid patching, and extended functionality... support your favorite software!

I much prefer paying for a solution that fulfils 100% of my expectations than using a free solution that does 95% of what I want...

Thats just me.... I know most wont agree...

The cost of the software was not my issue. I'll try to explain this in more detail so that some of you can understand my point of view....

What I recall from 10 months ago is the Hybrid team posting on here about their retail MMC venture. I remember seeing a post from the admin asking them not to post about it, I guess it's because they aren't paying advertising fees. So then they came back and said that it would always be free for mp3car members. That was their loophole. ...this is how I remember it, but I could be quoting a dream I had last year too... Anyhow, now there is a full release available with the purchase of their carputer kit, but all we have is an old beta version that's about seven months old.

That's why I started this thread. I run my own forum where all commercial advertising must be paid for. I guess you could say that the admin in me was ticked. I was also having a crappy week and I needed to vent about something.

    The_Grinch,

If what you say in your last post was true I'd agree with you.

Unfortunately it is not the true painting!

There is no "ready-version" on sale with their hardware (which would make us "beta-testers" upset because we were promised access to that ready-version).

Since they have paused development, and that website claim is old, and not true (they have had that advertisement page even before turning the first beta, and there isnt and never was a final version yet).

I realize that now. I'm just replying to those that think I'm complaining because I'm not getting something for free. It was the scenario that got me all razzed up last month.

I'm sure I missed something, but David and CentraFuse have never said it would be free for mp3car users (very good deal, but not free) and he seem to get away with it. So I doubt that MMC had to give it away for free unless they wanted to.

I also was under the impression that there wasn't any final release availible yet, the $2499 package on their website have been there for ages.

OK, so they're a bit optimistic with timeframes. But until we know what really happened/will happen, lets just wait with building those gallows.

    Mobile Media Center
Central Touch Interface for access to everything in your car - will always remain free for mp3car users.

Go back to Front Ends to see the description for MMC. It's right there in plain view.
