Have you ever seen the screen on a Prius in the sun. The answer is no, all you can see in the sun is glare. A friend of mine has a 2010 MB 550 its better but by no means transflective. I think it's better because of the placement, the windows have high end tint, and it is slightly crisper, but is is a $100,000 car so it should be better compared to the Prius. I dont think the car MFG have it all figured out yet either.
Here are some links to pics that I took this morning. I tried to match the angles the best I could with the 2 monitors. The image on the screen is the same as is the brightness and contrast ratio. The pics are unedited. I left them big intentionally. I tried to get glare off of the screen with a flash and I couldn't. The monitors in the pics are a standard 4 wire 250 nit Lilliput 669 HDMI monitor compared to our new enhanced high brightness 450 nit 4 wire Transflective Optically Bonded model.
Here is the stock with direct sun hitting the upper right corner.

    and the TFE comparison

These 2 pics were taken in direct sunlight but the sun was not directly hitting the screen.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I have to say that the Infiniti screen is the best I've seen so far, I doubt it's optically bonded or the best it could be. My Toyota Sequoia is worse, it can be a complete disappointment, and AFAIK, it's the same screen as the one on the Lexus.

Here's some pics I posted of my Toyota Sequoia OEM NAV, compared to my Motion Computing LE1700 tablet PC. No idea what type of transflective treatment this tablet has, but it is the sunlight viewable model ("viewanywhere"). I doubt it's optically bonded, but it must have everything else. It's not a Hydis AFFS+ screen, which is considered to be the best in the biz (as far as tablets are concerned).

However, compared to the stock OEM screen, it's pretty pretty good. See:

OEM washed out (Tablet is in the shade, so you can compare both directly):

Tablet now (picture taken withing seconds, note the bezel reflecting sunlight and being washed out):

In both picures, the sun is coming sideways and the screens are not directly reflecting the sun. If they were directly facing the sun, there would be nothing at all to see on the OEM NAV in that case, while the tablet goes strangely greenish, almost 3D like (as if there's two light sources, one coming from behind the letters/images, eerie, but you can still read from it (but with great difficulty).

the only real benefit the OEM screens seem to have is the fact that they're typically built deep into the dash and that helps to keep the screens from glare.

Is your monitor bonded? If not it can not have a reflection percentage that low because of the air gap. Its just a matter of physics.
I meant the drawing in that picture doesn't represent a resistive touch panel, it can be a glass, saw, capacitive or any other technology, but not resistive, because only shows two reflections.

The XF700 is bonded, so the reflection is very low.

Car makers just use what's tested for long time, to avoid any unnecessary risk. I have seen only few models from GM using some enhancements

I don't think so, it must be a special pen, globed hand or any non conductive pen won't activate it.

However, the capacitive touch screen is only activated by the touch of a human finger and scratches in the coatings can cause dead spots on the screens. A gloved finger, pen, stylus or hard object will not work. Hence, it is inappropriate for use in many applications, including medical and food preparation. The technology was originally created for small screens and will not scale to larger screens easily and can require periodic recalibration

Here is a link to the bonded 669. There are some good side by side comparison shots as well.

Looks good. Any idea on the panel dimensions? I wonder if Lilliput and Xenarc still use different sized panels. I made a custom bezel to fit my 5 year old xenarc, it would be a shame to have to make another one.
