I have no issues when at home or at work (the bars drop, but not the call). But today, at the park, I lost signal completely. As the latest gizmodo article explains, when the signal is weak, the grip can take your signal down -20dB.

So I don't know yet what to do. I generally don't use cases with my phones, I bought some transparent think skin protection for the screen, back and sides at Amazon, and I'll see the results. If it still bad, I'll return it (got 30 days).

I don't see any other phone at AT&T (the others suck where I live) that could give me anything closer. I heard android does not have gyroscope and cool stuff like that? Are they as fast as the iPhone 4? (The iPhone4 is unbelievably fast, as much as the iPad). I'd like an Android with similar features, even if the screen is not quite there, but maybe I'll give this ip4 to my wife and buy a Windows phone later...

Check out the T9193 from Telstra. It works on AT&T networks and has the 850Mhz band for 3G/4G data. The screen is bigger and looks nicer. It runs a 1ghz snapdragon so it is wicked fast. Camera is good, accelerometers work well, and it actually does hardware multithreading unlike the POS you have now.

It also my pocket still camera, my pocket video camera, my portable gps, my portable game machine, my pocket e-book reader, my mp3 player, my pocket picture viewer, my whole house WMC remote control, my pocket carputer and my pocket internet browser and mail reader.

It's also a phone, but that's not important, as I always have POTS around or I can use someone else's good working phone (wife's) OR still I could just hold it right.


And of course, I could buy a damn case. Will see what happens.

I'll check that out, thanks! Can you tether with AT&T for no extra cost than the $30.00 for smart phone, as a j/b iPhone? Or do I need to create an ad hoc network via pdanet? Or not even that?

How does it compare to Droid X, I wonder? (they don't have iP4's three axis gyroscope, just the accelerometer, but I can live with that, I guess). Heard on Gizmodo the droid is slow, too many gadgets on start up?

Forget about it. AT&T is just offering me old android phones, no Droid X or HTC Evo4

You can get all the same info from a gyro with an accelerometer in a phone. It works just fine.

The "Evo" IS the T8585/T9193, except not as good. And no android isn't slow. If it is, it is because of carrier bloatware, not google's fault.

well, it looks like apple is finally partially admitting a mistake, and at least offering free cases, and a refund to those who already bought a case...

This was played right before the presentation began. What a self-serving, self masturbating, arrogance, loftiness display. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS CRAP?

I couldn't believe I was hearing that...I went to my apple account right then and there to return the iP4. But I couldn't, it was past the 30 day period. I feel like a sucker.

The problem is not that bad for me, but it's noticeable, and I wanted some clever solution for that. I can grip my wife's 3G all day, no signal degradation at all. Pointing fingers at others is cowardice. I wanted some kind of varnish or insulating cover applied at the factory, store or whatever. Not a ghetto bumper.

I don't use a case anyways, just a skin, and that's not enough. Very poor design.

But the video ****ed me off. Those guys cultivate fanboyism (which is why I can't stand 5 min. at any Apple/Mac forum). But they love this kind of pageantry, it's cool to cultivate shills - why not, it's free! That's what they're doing. The endorsement of that video was rude, to say the least. At the time I just wanted to glue the guy in the video on my punch bag.


Very poor from Apple. They're too big now.

If android isn't slow, they just blew away the laws of physics by going from "fast" to "out of this world" by improving performance by 400%.

The fact is, Java code doesn't run as fast as native code. They threw in a JIT compiler and now things are a lot faster.

You'll never hear apple gaining anywhere in the ballpark of 400% gains in software performance unless they actually change the hardware. Sad to say, but iOS is the standard. It's snappy and beautiful.

If you do something and all of the sudden are getting 400% gains, chances are you were doing it wrong to begin with.
