The video basicaly says there is a Car PC, and a few extra batteries, and a webcam. It looks like you have an amazing system, but really can not tell much from the video.

What kind of CarPC, what OS is it running? What front end are they using? what are the specs of the PC? What all is it used for? What other hardware is it hooked to, Fusion Brain, Tire pressure sensors, GPS, any other integrated software and on and on.......

I found this to be true of the Delorian video as well.

MP3Car is a technical CarPC forum for the most part, and just stating that a car has a CarPC in it, really is not much information
The idea behind the videos isn't really to show every detail of what the carPC's do, its just to show the various ways people install them and use them in there individual setups. Mp3car made an effort to keep all of the videos under 90 seconds because people (not necessarily forum members) dont watch videos greater in length

I am not trying to ruffle feathers or anything, or run anything down, just a bit of constructive criticism is all. I just personally have not found some of the video's all that informative... Sorry.

Again, it is just a personal and honest statement, it would certainly be easier to praise the video. but again, sorry, I just found it lacking. That setup looks AMAZING, and I would have just like to learn more about it. (And the one in the DeLorean) Maybe these videos should be a trailer to watch for the above mentioned "90 second crowd", and if you are interested, then watch a more detailed video.

Ok, after watching that video, can you tell me how it was installed, or how it is used in their individual setup?

The only thing really mentioned other than the batteries is "Here we have a PDA, that is controlled also by a 10" touchscreen, and there is also a CarPC".

I would think that the CarPC should be the focal point, no just "Oh and there is also a CarPC"

I know Rob and the team work very hard to do the videos and such at CES, the AKfest and such, it would just be nice to see a little more information in some of the videos is all. Heck Goce spent 3 times as much time showing us the various places where we could stick the iPad mount, than was spent on the CarPC in this video.

This could be my fault, we found that no one watches after 1-2 minutes, so i encouraged short videos...Usually our videos are really informative. I'll check with our camera man.

Yeah, the idea of trailers + more detailed videos is good.

    +1

i watched the ipad mount video all the way through a couple of times... though trying to read the writing on the whiteboard helped contribute to that...

but i have always watched the video all the way through-- because the good stuff that i am interested in is usually after everyone else stops watching it

I didnt get to show off the computer as much as I wanted; I am running things like voice recognition and my pride & joy is the remote control via phone & web.

The power issues are not that difficult to tackle.....I got a 250 amp alternator, a bunch of schottsky diodes and a power relay to condition 3 batteries, and I can go home and sleep while leaving the system on. As long as I dont go and dissapear for a week, I'll have power in the truck when I come back.

My thing is hardware and fabrication, and Margret is about the software...although Im enjoyng programming the servo controllers.
Do you think that a 3 battery setup will allow me to use instant on feature? Basically I want the main system to be instant on and the second PC i want to use hibernate. I dont think the batteries can sustain 2 computers.

there are a dozen things that would need to be known to answer that question.... it depends on the batteries used, the standby current draw of the system and how long the system will have to be able to stay in standby without dieing.

I wanted to use 2 Optima Yellow top batteries for the rear. Then a Optima Red top for the engine. I plan to use a battery isolator. I think 2 yellow tops should be able to handle powering a Car PC in instant on mode. The PSU will be a OPUS 360. I dont know what it will draw when sleeping though. I would like it to stay in stand by for at least 2 to 3 days.

What will make a huge difference in the sleep state you are using. I is if you are using S2 (CPU, Fans, USB and motherboard are still powered for the most part) or S3 where just the memory is given enough power to sustain a sleep mode. Of course your power supply will eat a little juice in either case.

Download Sleeper and run it on your machine. (Very small and free piece of software). It will report what sleep modes your motherboard supports. If you do not see S3, then go into the BIOS and check for an option to enable S3. I have found with a couple motherboards here that they default to S2 in the BIOS, and you have to set it to S3.

For hibernate, that really depends on your graphics card drivers, strange as it may be, as well as enabling it in system properties.

I have instant on on my dual core carPC and a SMALL power cell(Kinetik HC600). Depending on the specs of your system, it shouldnt be THAT difficult to get instant on in your setup.

And for what its worth, these days the yellow top is no better than the red top in terms of floor voltage. The Red/Yellow are now essentially the same in that regard (Optima went cheap). Save your money and go red, or go even cheaper and get a kinetik power cell.
