What is the point of SEMA anyway? Some might say aftermarket vehicle parts and modifications that help maximize the performance of your vehicle. In pursuit of the ultimate in performance then is how we stumbled upon this next vehicle.
Upon our wanderings throughout the plethora of tinkered with, modified, suped-up, and unabashedly painted vehicles at SEMA 2010, one vehicle in particular caught our eye. The Ultima GTR beckoned with her race-inspired lines and not-so-subtle side profile with prominent rear wing. Labeled as the “worlds fastest supercar,” the GTR made us want to know more.
Officially a ‘kit’ car, imported from the UK, the GTR is distributed in North America by Forman Motorsports in Phoenix, Arizona. Franz Forman was kind enough to show us around this amazing vehicle. Thier GTR package includes such options as leather seating, an Alcantara headliner, Alpine sound system, and the large, but functional, carbon fiber rear spoiler. As each individual customer gets to input some of his or her option preferences, this would be a perfect platform for a full-fledged car computer.
But what makes this car amazingly special is its’ performance. It’s naturally aspirated 720-horsepower LS7 package is available for roughly $170K. At this price it’s about $1.3 million less than the Bugatti Veyron, $1 million less than the McLaren F1 LM, $300K less than the Koenigsegg CC8S, and $800K less than a Ferrari Enzo. Still, it’s faster than all of them. Weighing in at just over 2200lbs, it’s power to weight ratio is staggering.
Guinness-verified world records include a 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds, a sub 10 second (9.9 to be exact) quarter mile time, and a 0-100-0 run of 9.4 seconds. As Highline-Autos stated in their volume VI, Number 3 edition, “This car is brutal fast... Enzo fast. Veyron fast. Carrera GT and Koenigsegg CCXR fast. And-then-some fast.” At the Top Gear test track, this car was a mind-boggling 6.2 seconds faster than the Enzo around each lap. Blistering performance, relatively economical price, supercar stigma. The Ultima GTR.
