well unfortunately if you have the deluxe version i dont think you can share the disk since the key is linked to your GPS receiver, and if you have the non-deluxe version it's a hardware key. i would imagine they have a way around sharing it.

the maps for any garmin device are said to work with GMPC (per their techs) and given this you will always be able to update the GMPC maps until some radical new platform comes out.

when i discussed this with them last week they also stated that given all the new android and windows 7 tablets that are coming out this year it would be "highly likely" that garmin will release a new, better program to replace GMPC, so i wouldn't worry!

How are new programs for an android or windows phone going to help the mobile PC community? Its just another obstacle to create an emulator to run the android/windows phone operating system (unless the windows phone actually uses win 7/vista/xp)

well there is already a company building a carPC with an android front end, it was featured on this website i believe...and yes, new phones will be running a lite version of windows 7, but i specifically stated "tablets" and the tablets will also be running a similar version of windows. it was the rep's expectation that garmin would launch a program to run on those devices so i would expect that any newer version of windows would be able to run the same program or that they would launch two versions, one for PCs and one for tablets.

now this is partially based on my discusion with him that the nav software on his garmin phone is far superior to garmin PC, and that phone runs on android, so obviously they are already looking to expand in different directions and that it may have just been too much effort to update the GMPC software, whereas killing it off and starting fresh affords them many more opportunities.

I do not want to borrow anyones software. I would buy my own update which supposedly the updates for the NUVI product will work. It will likely be a year before I am too worried about it anyways. I have the 2010 maps now. If 2011 maps are out for the NUVI, I might update soon.
