Imagine car computing. Without the computer.

As for the OP, I think he meant something like this?

Think of it like this, your Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor send and recieve all their information via the Network cable. Once your machine starts the Terminal Session your computer is basically just showing you what the Server is doing, not your computer. In a sense, your computer has become a "Dumb Terminal."

it kinda makes sense, though, it would still require a computer, er, more correctly--a server...

the question-- if you install a terminal in your car, and offload all the data processing to a out-of-vehicle server, is it still car computing? i think it is-- your still using a computer...

If you take from that example... what kind of terminal will most people use? The cheapest option is of course an atom board... making the whole endeavour kinda silly other than just as a proof of concept. Why offload the computing onto a server, when the on-board PC is plenty powerful enough to do everything you need, and still functions with a lack of data connection (something that is still an issue in large parts of the usa)

for $90 you can get a atom board...

not to mention, a thin client would also require a server(to build brand new, something like $800..) and a mobile data connection(aren't those cards like $30/mo?) thanks, but the atom board is cheaper and doesn't drop out when driving through a tunnel...

If the computer is not (a) the computers already in the car, eg. NAV/SAT/RAdio, etc; (b) a tablet or linux or a windows computer, then I can only think of something like the car computer nav/radio whatever for control and a 7" screen to display the results. Everything else is done remotely, by a server.

Why? I don't know. If 100Mbps LTE's network are for real in the future...it's a possibility at least for urbanites with strong signal.

As a consequence, my carputer would be at home, maybe my development PC...LOL. I would just hit play/pause and do voice search in the car etc.

I'm not a fan of the idea, but?
