Any news on the Android version? I know you guys were waiting on some phones to test with, anything yet? I hope this works because I am switching as soon as it does and I get my new phone.

P.S. I know the audio/video out is not mimics or the phones fault, from what I got from his responses is that he thought it was a radio of some sort with some way of integrating without side. Or that’s what he was hoping for and it’s not that at all.

Any estimation on the time frame for this to be released? I am looking at this and the Pioneer AppRadio, and this seems a lot more versatile EXCEPT for that dual connection requirement.

You don't need 2 cables to make this work. I'm using the composite cable from Apple for audio, video, and charging. Just one cable plugged to the dock connector on my iPhone 4, the other end has video & L/R audio going to my Kenwood head unit , and USB which I have hooked up to car charger plug.

No estimate just yet, the problem with the appRadio is that you only get like 3 apps.

    @NSXRebel hows the video quality?

good, not HD by any means. I'm not sure what the resolution is on the Kenwood DDX-7015, it's a few years old already. My friends were certainly impressed, specially when I bring up TomTom.

A 68kOhm resistor on pin 21 makes iPhone send audio through line-out without any messages.

As found here and confirmed on iPhone 2g and 3GS by me I will try video tomorrow if I get a chance.

I've already built a circuit board with a Ridax extension cable to pull the video pins out of the dock connector, seen here:

    http://www.mikegermond.com/temp/FX35/iPod_board.jpg

And added the Apple Authentication Chip to enable video. It uses Serial Rx, Serial Tx, 3.3v, and GND. Seen here:

    http://www.mikegermond.com/temp/FX35/iPod_authchip.jpg

As the makers of the Mimics probably well know by now, the video auth chip terminates the iPhone's serial data lines. So any serial communication during video output is impossible without some circuitry to play traffic cop. I can't get audio out with my interface because my car is trying to control it on these Serial Data lines and can't get through. It puts the whole audio interface into lockdown, even if the audio is being output.

Getting video and audio out is not a problem, just getting them at the same time is my problem. Thus my hopes that Mimics would have a solution built in.

Any advice that can be shared by the makers of Mimics (who have clearly figured this out since they are using touch control via Serial and video output simultaneously) would be much appreciated.

P.S. the touch control is over bluetooth not serial. Intercepting and meshing serial signals is not an easy task. I did tackle this for a while, but doesn't seem its possible (yet).

.. Don't get me started on the "auth" chip!!!

If you use the iPod AV cable you will have charging, video and audio.
If you use a VGA cable like this you can have video and audio. (I have one i made that does video+audio+charge)
If you get this you can use HDMI, have audio RCA output and charge.

The issue with the above solutions is that you cant adjust the volume using the device. This can be done other ways easily. The HDMI solution on the other hand looks like it has a remote for volume. I have got one of these arriving soon and I'm sure to crack it open the second i get it. I have a neat idea for it

P.S. The mimics translates the touch signals over bluetooth, not serial. I did tackle this initially and your right, its easy to do things separately with the serial bus but not simultaneously!

I need to find a spot to post the mimics manual, but for now anyone that is interested can get it HERE for some more technical information.

If you can get video and audio out through the HDMI port on the dock then somthing like this or this may help split it into usable audio (RCA) and video (VGA). But of course it adds to the cost.

All good work-arounds but none of that will work with my car because it will not play audio unless it sees a serial connection. I'm about to cave and by a bluetooth module to use A2DP streaming and AVRCP control, and say screw the on-screen song info.

Or figure out a way to convert the serial data from the car to USB like the aftermarket radios use.
