This HDMI to VGA/RCA box here looks interesting though.....

Most digital amps have a small separate volume control with equalizer for easy adjustment. Another popular option is using a basic single DIN headunit for the amp/equalizer and using the external screen for the iphone display. This method will be limited on what space you have as you will require a single DIN + a double DIN slot.

Well how difficult would it be to develop a hardware and/or software solution that can control the digital audio volume from the iPhone or part of Mimics? So the next Mimics iteration could be a "black box" that incorporates the current Mimics board plus the HDMI to VGA/RCA board similar to the converter in the post above (which is not that big or expensive), with some software developed via Cydia to control the digital audio via the iPhone. If the software volume control is not possible due to restrictions from Apple (that Cydia programmers can't bypass), then a manual volume control separate from the iPhone should be possible, right?

The audio output of the iPhone is a line-out signal and is fixed internally via hardware. Integrating HDMI/VGA in the mimics would cost more than the cables that apple makes millions of. So if using the line out of the iPhone an external volume control is the only way.

Switching gears a bit, I have a question about video quality. Is there much difference between using the Mimics with a VGA monitor vs a HDMI monitor? I currently have a carpc with a Xenarc VGA touchscreen and would like to use that monitor first before potentially buying a new one. I would think that a VGA vs HDMI picture on a 7" monitor would be difficult to see a difference (compared to VGA or HDMI vs Composite/S-Video, which is a huge difference in video quality). If the picture quality using the iPhone VGA adapter is as good as the picture quality with my current carPC setup, I am good with that.

In terms of pixel-per-pixel it is exactly the same as not many 7" monitors are 1080p. The only difference that we have noticed is that the colors are slightly different. You can't actually tell unless you have two monitors side by side. So quality difference is very minimal.

I have another question for you.....

Since I will be using a VGA monitor, do you still offer a modified iPhone VGA adapter with charging capability since the VGA adapter made by Apple (and most manufacturers) does not support charging (unlike the Digital A/V adapter, which does)? And if you still offer this service, would you be willing to modify the VGA adapter here which also has audio out via two RCA plugs?

I'm a very happy owner of mimics.
It worked perfectly until last week when I decided to update the iphone to ios 5.0.1 unthetered.
My iphone no longer connect to mimics.

So Don't Upgrade to ios 5.0.1 !!!!!

I'm waiting for new drivers... or a solution !

Hi, yes we still do modifications of VGA cables to enable charging. You can either send us yours or we can ship one already modified to you.

We have encountered as issue with some users of the mimics with the untethered iOS5.0.1. We have got it working, but many customers can't get it to work. We are looking into the issue and the fix will just be a update in the "mimics driver" in cydia.

How would one go about ordering one of these already modified? I already have an HDMI adapter but it is slightly short for my setup and I dislike having to connect two cables.
