I never called you names. I simply stated that what you were posting was not technically sound - it didn't make sense.

Another post someone informed me that I must "never have installed this in a car before EVER" because of a comment I made trying to help someone w/ a voltage question Xenarc monitors. The monitor states 12-36 volts, so I assumed that was the tolerance. Instead of someone saying "hey man, I tested this once with a higher voltage and it toasted it", I recieved a deroggatory comment that I felt was unnecessary. Hence I have not been back since
Only Cproaudio made any "harsh" ciriticisms to your post about Xenarcs, and that was because he was speaking from experience. The problem here is that anyone who speaks "as-a-matter-of-fact-ly" will sound like they know what they're talking about... EVEN IF they're flat out wrong. The only way to keep the proverbial lemmings away from the edge is to challenge people's statements.

We don't doubt that you're building a business from making car-mp3/dvd players. In fact, we're all quite eager to see what you've got, and have stated so previously. You've never come through with that.

The only thing we doubt is your electronics expertise because your suggestions don't make a whole lot of sense. Since when have any fine electronics equipment had such a wide tolerance for input voltage, and since when has it been possible to run a 12v hard drive off of a tiny 5v power supply?

Well, like I said in the quote you chose: It's not the fact that I was wrong - as I will be the first to admit when I am - it was the fact that it was handled in a fashion that was offensive rather than informative. A simple "hey, the label on the case is wrong man, here's what I found out" would have sufficed.

As for the enclosures, they're just a product that I came across while searching for something that someone else was asking for. I actually own the 2.5" version and it works fantastic. You're probably right on the 3.5" man - I have no doubt that I'm definitely not the smartest person here. I came away from that thread with some knowledge about USB that I didn't know that I am sure will prove to be useful, but also feeling like an idiot because I posted something trying to help. I just feel like the overall karma here is unwelcoming, and intimidating. There is a ton of usefull info, and a ton of smart people, but it's like all the smart people are in a battle for who's the smartest.

But then again, that's just me. Not tryin to offend anyone - the whole reason I posted the first comment was because someone else had made a comment (that was removed) that I could relate to. Everyone makes mistakes, it's just my opinion that they shouldn't be made to feel stupid, but rather given the chance to learn from it.

You make a good point w/ the voltage tolerances - again, a mistaken comment. As for the 12v hard drive, I'd like you to check out a company called Archos. They make a Micro-PowerManagement system designed to do exactly that.

100% off topic but the Garmin GPS35-HVS has a range of 6-40vdc for its input.
