How about CarPCGear.com.... I had bought it a long time ago, even designed a logo and site, but I never finished it because I wanted to focus on internet radio and TV broadcasting. If you guys want it I can sell you the domain for a resonable price.
while i can understand the idea of wanting to change the name, i can also understand that the mp3car name has been around a while and changing it could be considered crazy by some.
like i said in one of the other posts in this topic, how about adding to the logo? something like "computers on the move", "not just music anymore", or "the computer, on wheels". i am sure alot of peole here can come up with something more creative than those...but hopefully those should get it started.
this way, new users that think we are about audio/music, just need to look at the logo, and we will be able to keep the mp3car name.

Domain name doesn't need changing to indicate it has something to do with PCs... Seriously though this is a waste of time and effort... You have a name in the industry already, when people google anything about PCs in a car 99% of the time it comes up with mp3car.com
Yes a different name at the begining would have been more ideal and better suited to the state car-pcs are in now compared to the days when a dash consisted of a VFD and a few push buttons! But it doesn't need changing, it wont increase sales, traffic or members...
IMO a new website and forum design is needed before the logo needs adjusting!
And half of the logos, well more than half, that have been knocked up so far looks a little 'MS Paint' or reminds me of many other wannabe forums/sites. Certainly wouldn't be an enhancement!
Do the front end right, design a nice online store and invest in promotion. Forget about logo design.
I think carpcgear would be another bad choice for a domain name... the problem is that it is too specific. The mp3car name was good for the start, but now we are on to true carPC's. And the reality is that this forum has become focused on much more than carPC's alone. A new name would need to be far more generic.
Heather, I think it might be worth it to look into domain name opportunities. Getting a new name does not have to be an instant change. The way I see it, making a new logo for the name mp3car is pretty tough. I think you said it best, that you pretty much always have to explain what 'mp3car' is. I've had to do that just with friends I talk to about this place. Not exactly good marketing.
Just my input![]()
I deserve half of the prize for the idea :P
Ahh and johi419 is a friend...I asked her to put something together for the contest
Thanatos.
If it absolutely had to be, they could always have mp3car.com redirect to the new domain. Shouldn't be too hard. I've seen it done a bunch of times.
Personally, I don't see the need for a new domain name. But... that's just my

I have bad luck with vehicles...
I know I don't have a super high post count, so you may not consider me to well, but I honestly came to this site firstly to ask questions only about sub woofers and amps, not having any intentions of building a carputer (although now I am)...
So that said, I do agree that there is mass confusion with the title, but I also don't know why you would want to change such a well known name...
Is it really that hard to just have in the introduction page or always along the top- "Please note that this is a forum dedicated to the process of building carputers, and all other questions should be directed to (link)"
That way you can open another forum and gather that whole market's attention as well. OR! you could do the swap for the new domain, and leave this one as the general car audio forum...that way, only the people that really care about carpc's will have their own area, and the mp3car.com is no longer a cause of confusion because it is for general car audio.
I think mp3 DID reflect pc's because it was a file extension, but ever since the digital music age of ipods and mp3 players, it has just been lost in translation to mean music, and car would mean music in hte car, or "car audio."
Back to the icon's...I have some photoshop skills, but don't really have the time or the desire to come up with anything creative...BUT I did like the one with the obd II and usb, and think that if you could create a simple looking keyboard to go behind it all, it would remind everyone of computers again.
Anyways, just my opinion, do what you want with it....if you like it though, I would enjoy a rep point or 2...
