I'd recommend CarDomain.com. You can see what others out there are doing to their rides(cutomizations, upgrades, etc...). There are plenty of images of customized vehicles to browse through for pretty much any make and model. This is my second favorite site for getting ideas for my car next to this site!!!

Surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet, but the vortex (www.vwvortex.com) and it's subsidiaries are the largest car forum on the web.
They have many, a mazda one, a subaru one, a bmw one, an audi one, of xourse a vw one, a volvo one, and others I can't think of.

Yes, I am a moderately "hardcore" Miata guy. To drive is to love in the case of a Miata. I think I prefer "die-hard fan" rather than "hardcore", though.
Seriously, go thrash on one sometime. They are not too fast in a straight line but they sure can carve corners!
...and yes, I still feel like a man driving my "chick car". (BTW, do you know that women are attracted to chick cars? It really works!)
