    Newbie section

Iím seeing a lot of newbies with newbie questions. Rather then clutter our more ďadvancedĒ forums with beginner questions should newbies have their own section?

Maybe there could be some sickly threads with commonly asked questions.

Let me know what you think by this Saturday.

I think some quick "FAQ's" could be useful, such as:

How can I power it? - links to DC-DC and invertor
What bits do i need? - basics, motherboard, processor, ram, display, way of controlling it, with examples of each
Cases? - home made, pre-built etc
What software can I use? - ME/4am/etc with V quick overview of each (few words)
What about sat-nav? again, couple of quick words etc
Display? - difference between composite/vga, why need each, touchscreen etc, couple of quick-links

Of course there's probably some stuff i've missed out, but some basic points like that could be useful, especially if it's basic, and will allow people to get a quick idea of what there is available, and of course then the godsend:

Search But with words like DSCustoms etc, try to get the newbies to search for specifics, maybe a list of common search terms to use

Just something to think about off the top of my head!

    yes!!!

i really like how netstumbler forums used to be, you had to be approved by the mods in order to have access to the rest of the forums, this basically was done to keep out bandwidth stealers and script kiddies

but same idea can be applied here, you spend X time in the newbie section then can be "promoted" to the rest of the forums.

whos gonna be in the newbie section? a bunch of people that dont know much about the mp3car process. i bet a majority of the "senior members" wont venture into that section too often. that said, will the appropriate information make it down to the newbie section, i cant tell you for sure, but i bet it would be pretty lacking.

    dont know... just my opinion

I think it should happen but I see a lot of "Use the search button" posts in response.

I would be happy to point people in the right direction.

I had the same concern too. But I feel that newbies helping newbies would be a good thing, rather then their post getting ignored or simply told to search for their answer by the more senior members in the main sections.

how about before registrering, you are given the faq and search button and have to answer 20-30 questions right before getting access to posting? no kidding

    very true.

i assume the newbies be granted reading access to the "regular" forums. im mean, there will be no way to relegate them to their own forum completely on their own.

plus, what or who is to decide when someone can graduate up to the regular forum. is it based on post count (think of skinny and his number of posts), or on time since joining?

im not trying to debunk this idea, just playing devil's advocate and putting up ideas from both sides.
