What Are New Posts

Whenever I click the New Posts button at the top of the board I seem to get different results in terms of how far back it goes. Sometimes its 20 minutes and other times it could be a couple of hours. What exactly is a "New Post" and is there a way I can just see all new posts over a specific timeframe without using Advanced Search options everytime?

I think it's any post that U haven't seen since the last time you visited the site.
